I tried it in two waves. First time I just started skipping meals and that did get a little difficult with headaches and tummy grumbling. Second time I paced myself, ate more, gradually increasing the time of fasting with breakfast at 10, then 11, then straight lunch and it worked better. Hopefully that helps you too!
I got myself fat adapted through keto (your body burns fat for fuel), and then it became pretty easy. I generally fast from about 7pm to 12 or 1pm the next day, and don’t feel too hungry in the mornings. If I do, I have some water, and that tides me over. I have intestinal issues and IF has given my digestion system a much needed rest, so it really makes me feel good. I tend to do it 5-6 days per week. The days that I eat earlier are days that I feel really hungry - gotta listen to your body!
For a different point of view:
Why breakfast is still king, even on an intermittent fast. http://strib.mn/2D9UxSy
That is extreme. So it’s a 22/2. I’m doing a 18/6 and feeling pretty good. Eat lunch around 2pm and dinner is done by 8
Toss in a 24 hr fast once a week, eat nutritionally dense foods the day before/after so your weekly calories stay the same, avocados, meats, etc. don’t binge on processed foods
Yeah just skip breakfast and distract yourself with work, meetings, etc. I do have some tea in the morning and that makes me feel good somehow. The nights after 7pm are tough though. I usually just look forward to weighing myself in the morning and think about what I’m going to eat for lunch the next day :) on days when I work out it is pretty tough as well. But I just drink a lot of water and keep my mind in it. If I work out during the fasting period (say around 7am) it is a bit more difficult than working out during the eating period (say 5pm). But my schedule rarely allows that 5pm workout. You gotta just start doing it for a few days and you’ll get used to it. Good luck!
Huge proponent, easy for me since I’m generally not hungry in the morning... Just black coffee gets the job done til noon
Don’t go all immediately. Take your time by adjusting your feeding window over time (e.g., 9am, 10am, 11am). Drink plenty of water and black coffee to curb your hunger. My biggest recommendation is to ensure you are actually eating enough calories. I am a male that tried this given big team dinners and actually lost weight (which I didn’t want) since I wasn’t consuming enough calories during the day
Loved it. Been doing it off and on for a couple years. Feel great and prefer to do one meal a day and fast the other 20-22 ish hours. It’s easier when eating keto or low carb — blood sugar spikes trigger hunger plus fat provides satiety for a greater period of time. Start slow as others have said. For me, I finish eating around 8 or 9 pm and go about my day until 7ish the next day when I eat again. But I got there by skipping breakfast then eventually moving my lunch closer and closer to dinner.
It’s not a starvation diet at all. You eat more calories at once rather than 3 smaller meals. For me, when trying to restrict calories and watch my weight (I’m in maintenance), it’s much more satisfying to eat one large meal rather than scrimp and count calories and portion and weigh everything to death while I log it
Fascinating. So you only eat between 7pm-9pm daily?
This post if super helpful. Thank you for initiating it!
Do you guys ever hit a plateau on IF? If yes, how do you break it? Seems like I have hit a plateau. Been doing 16/8 for 2 months now and not really losing a lot of weight anymore.
Ha. I know. I have the same problem. I think of it more like a maintenance thing. If you want to lose more, you have to do something more. Maybe cut alcohol. Maybe add in some exercise (fasting gets harder when you exercise though). Let me know if you figure it out :)
Snack on sea salt if you’re hungry, sometimes hunger is more about dehydration or lack of electrolytes- we (most of us) have plenty of storage and never give our bodies the opportunity to fuel off of the storage- that’s what it’s there for
Really sc2? Once a week? Impressive. How did you work up to that?
