Been working at a startup law firm doing transactional work and recently the partner of another firm doing private defense litigation has attempted to scalp me with a base pay well above my current. Likely going to turn it down seeing as I enjoy the flexibility of where I’m at but any experience with this and how to appropriate handle/leverage this event for a positive result with current employer?

Long term, i can make partner at my firm in a few years if I stay, which has its benefits. When a job posting says 3-5 years of experience, does that mean a 3rd-5th year associate? Asking because there’s a bit of a discrepancy between the two, since if I graduated in May 2017, I’d be a third year associate this October, but only have two full years’ experience.

I received a message on LinkedIn from an internal recruiter at a company that sounded intriguing. Would it be bad form to ask for more information about the role and about comp up front? I wasn’t looking to leave my firm until later next year at the earliest, but the company sounds really interesting. Don’t want to waste a lot of time if the comp isn’t right, though.

How hard would it be to get a job if I quit mine? I’m feeling really burnt out and unhappy with my current environment. I’ve been applying for positions since February and not getting much traction. I’ve expanded my search to NC, DC, TX, and CA, or fully remote. I wonder if maybe I’m just not dedicating the time needed to conduct a good search/get enough applications out there. My current position is at a firm and I don’t have time to apply to more than 1-2 jobs per week. Finance/corporate law.

How feasible is it to transition out of compliance into legal practice?

I’m interested in speaking with a legal recruiter. It appears there are a lot of opportunities out there right now. My resume is robust, but not traditional, as I left a law firm 14 years ago (on good terms) to run a small business. It has been successful, but times (and labor markets) are changing and it is time to consider a pivot in my career path. I am licensed and in good standing in two jurisdictions. Any of you interested in speaking with me?

In discussions to make a lateral move. Is there any way I can negotiate higher pay outside the fixed bands? Higher annual bonus, signing bonus? I assume chances are low but worth trying.
