No way. I’d never waste my references’ time unless I know the job is one I want. Request a verbal offer.
Nopes.
1) an offer can be later legally reneged if references don’t check out.
2) you are c-suite already. You’re not a nobody. Would assume the soft referencing is done already and this should serve only to highlight any HR issues/ discrepancies on your file
I wouldn't entertain references until you know what the offer is
I agree with this. I wouldn't give them over with no offer.
Our offer letters, for any and every position, state that the offer can be rescinded if one of the following doesn’t check out, BG check, credit check, reference check, education check, previous employment check, etc. Many people don’t even allow you to contact a previous employer if they haven’t issued an offer yet.
Nope. I would never do that. Only after the offer is presented.
Curious, they didn’t discuss range during the interview process or a discussion with the recruiter? My assumption is they know your salary or at least what is on your application if you completed one. They should be in the same ball park unless you are looking for a sigificant increase. I would ask about the range and give the references.
I would advise against getting to the stage of offer/references without having a solid idea of the offer range. I also would not give the green light to have references checked until you had an offer in hand. At your level, references serve only the purpose of validation and good hygiene. From my experience, they are not generally used as a condition of offer. Good luck!
No. Don’t give references until you have offer in hand. Do not burn political capital. If the recruiter can’t do their job and assess your candidacy and needs help with their write up for you, you probably don’t want to be working w them anyway.
Tough one. Can't really evaluate an offer til you have an offer, and they may not want to extend one without your references..
But in the real world you’re the one who’s giving them your references so hopefully you’ll only give them adequate ones! An initial offer “pending reference checks” should always be provided. They can always rescind if things don’t check out.
Nope
Depending on the level BUT most orgs could/would extend a conditional offer, contingent upon BGC & refs. Definitely bring this concern directly to your Recruiter as they may/should have internal leverage and be able to clarify the process and possible exceptions. Ultimately you will gain invaluable insight into the company’s policy of Candidate Experience.
It also makes perfect sense you’d want to protect those execs’ time so kudos for your query!
No because you may not have resigned yet. They need to have at least given you an offer and you need to have at least accepted “in principle” pending final negotiations.
