Never put personal expenses on your corporate card. I have had employees accidentally charge (grabbed the wrong card at the check out) but they immediately reported and rectified. From your post it sounds like you have intentionally charged a substantial amount. Some employers consider this theft which, depending on the amount, could get you more than just fired.
Is there a reason you’re putting personal expenses on your corporate card?
Folks - OP never said she posted personal charges to her corporate card (and I’m hoping that’s true). I think by “my part”, she means she didn’t submit expenses for reimbursement. Because the only personal expenses D allows are your personal share of healthy and fitness, which shouldn’t exceed $500
OP - why are you behind? If you import your expenses regularly, D pays Amex on time. Were there delays in approval (eg if you’re in GPS) or did you just say fall behind. If it’s the latter, sorry - but this is on you.
I would suggest looking at statement due amounts (rather than total balance due) and borrowing that money (friend, fam, payday loan). Get your expenses done ASAP and D will pay Amex within the next two weeks. So it should be a short loan.
Trying to be sympathetic as I do not know all the details about your situation. But it really blows my mind how someone can fall behind on expenses, especially if you know you don’t have the finances to cover it. Really curious
I would get a loan to pay it off if it was personal expenses you out in your corporate card.
You could get fired for that, and I’d rather have a loan with interest than no job.
I have poor credit I won’t be approved. I’m screwed
Ask a friend for a loan. It can’t be that much, can it? When I was in credit card debt (like $30k making $40k - interest is a bitch) one of my friends loaned me money to settle. It destroyed my credit but I was out of the mess and I paid my friend back on a monthly plan.
I don’t have close enough friends to do that. It is only 3,500 but as a student out of school it is a lot to me. I emailed compliance and apologized and said it would be paid off by end of February. I hope they understand. I just don’t have the money now
I would do anything I could to pay it off asap. Beg, borrow and sell everything. I accidentally charged uber to my Corp amex a few times (drunken nights) and was so scared I'd get fired.
I told them I could pay it off be the end of January. I have sent them four emails since I got the compliance email it was late. No response.
Depending on what the charges were and why you were late, I'd seriously get to explain what the charges were for, why you were late (was it your fault, were you out on leave, codes weren't set up yet, etc) and notify your coach. At PwC, if I'm more than 60 days late submitting my expenses, my coach gets an email about my deliquency too.
Yeah I explained my project from non gps to gps so what you could and could not charge changed and I feel behind and messed up
If you can show it was an internal delay, I'd notify that partner you were doing work for and give them a heads up. The last thing you want is to get audited.
OP - there isn’t that much of a difference between the type of items GPS vs Non GPS can charge. Perhaps more of a difference in limits along with the approval process. I still don’t get how you could’ve racked up so many charges that you cannot pay for them till Jan/Feb
I owe 3500. I do not have that saved up
That’s quite a bit indeed to pay out of pocket. What do you see the key expense policy changes being between GPS and non that drove this?
Non gps you charge your food. Once you switch to gps you do not charge food and have to pay out of pocket and submit per diem. Took me awhile to figure that out
