Being asked to move to a different part of the building to work solely on a certain aspect of a clients/clients' business. Not entirely opposed but good or bad omen?

Something similar happened to me. There are 2 ways to look at it (and it’s different at different points of your career, obviously).

The first is they are sticking you in a place to fill a need. Their thinking is if you don’t like it, you’ll just leave.

The other is that they are putting you somewhere to make a problem go away because they trust you and know you’re good.

Obviously the 2nd is healthier professionally (mentally as well) but you still have to assess if there’s a future for you at the agency and/or if you’ll get anything for your book.

It’s nice to be liked but you’ve still got to keep one eye on the next gig.

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.

I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about.

However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?

I'm reading up on Scott Galloway's take that "Boring is sexy." Basically, big sexy job titles and pursuits are highly competitive, so those who chase them earn less money and encounter greater obstacles. Boring ideas, jobs and industries have a much greater chance of earning you more money.
