Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

Capital structure is mostly irrelevant. Private firm can maybe be a bit more long term in its thinking. But then again many private firms have failed having made such long term bets that didn’t go well
Having worked for both public and private consulting firms I view private firms as being more lenient on the shorter term for employees and partners. Public companies are much more focused on quarter to quarter where I find partnerships are more annually focused. Sure there are some quarterly targets set but the ultimate focus is total year end results. Not so in a public company.
Finally, leadership does not make knee jerk reactions to activist investors that can sometimes cause irreparable harm to a company
Having worked for both public and private consulting firms:
public company - tons of red tape, scrutiny and very cheap on expenses
Private company - more latitude to invest in employee happiness
