What would you do?

I was recently promoted to be a senior and I’m on this project with an acting senior and associates. The acting senior would tell everyone, including me, what to do everyday before I get the chance to. I feel like he is stepping into my boundaries. I feel uncomfortable being told by him what I have to do when I know it myself. I feel like he’s my senior instead lol.

Am I being oversensitive about this as a new senior? Or how would you address this?

Question on vaccination requirements. Does anyone require the booster to be considered “fully vaccinated?” We are requiring employees to be boosted to come into office and I’m not sure if that’s legal.

How do you react when family members of yours tell you about how they are taking tax write-offs that seem improper? What to do when marketing are trying to own the discovery of a new feature and leave the PM to do all the rest of the E2E process?

Hi Folks, any insights on GTM roles? what would be the long term outlook / career growth? is it advisable to choose this path or stick with classic product management? did a quite an amount of classic product management in my career, have an option to choose GTM path, will this be any better in terms of growth or a dead end?

At our company we have a separated product development team, which is mainly managing external agencies. Our product management is focused on the business KPIs to drive subscriptions and without a connect to the development process.

Can anybody relate to such a structure?

I think it’s mostly really ineffective to have to many teams with small responsibilities. 🙈

What is the best way to start ideating when working on a completely new Product assignment? Is there a template / tool you follow?

I love my job and the company that I've been working on for a year. My boss is great and the culture is very product focused. There's been tremendous learning for which I'm very grateful.
The only sticking point is that my compensation increase this year was 4% which isn't ideal since inflation has been so high it feels like a pay cut. I know I should change my job and to get ahead of the market. But it sucks to change jobs where I've enjoyed working so much and getting to learn a lot too.

I just took over a SAAS product where I own P&L with 800 B2B clients with so much customization that it feels like 800 versions of the product. The product was acquired and there are a ton of process improvements needed, tribal knowledge and start up mentality. I have a PO who does the day to day work with the devs, but otherwise it’s just me. I’ve been a PM for 15 years and never felt so understaffed. I’d like to hear the level of responsibility you each have and how your team is structured.

One key mistake I made while trying to get into PM was to tailor my resume bullet points towards *proving* I was a PM (I did user research! I defined the product vision!) vs. explaining what exactly I did. More lessons learned / tips and tricks 🔗 below.

Our company went through an exercise of redefining product roles - from business analyst, product owner, product manager to assoc pm, pm, senior pm etc.
The concept is everyone with same skills - with different competency levels.
My question is - what about interest? I am energized by execution, not so much strategy. Is product management for me, or should I be looking at other career paths?
Note: I am not overly ambitious, but do want to have a good salary for my retirement savings😉

Real Talk: everyone complains about how many apps they send in and how many interviews don’t pan out in product. I just landed my 2nd product role in 2 years with pretty minimal interviewing. I wasn’t interviewing with or looking for a role at a FAANG or the latest greatest almost unicorn but I know what I want. I don’t think I’m great at interviewing but overall (even outside of product) I’ve gotten offers with not that much work tbh. What’s your experience here?

Has anyone ever interviewed for a PM role without a case study? I’m currently interviewing for a PM position at another company (3rd round) and haven’t seen one yet, so wondering if that’s a thing.
