Besides the big four, are there any other good firms that specialize in federal accounting/auditing/federal financial management? I want to leave my current firm and having difficulty finding others.

Guidehouse FM is dying. You could check out Grant Thornton, RSM and BDO, all who have Federal practices (GT’s being the largest by far). Kearney and Company and Cotton and Company are both IPAs that exclusively serve the Federal govt. There’s always the fly by night 8(a)s/small bizs that leech off FIAR funding too if you’re feeling desperate (11th Hour Service, etc.)

DM me if you're interested in BDO

There’s plenty of FM work at Guidehouse, definitely not dying.

G2 didn’t say it’s amazing, just that it’s not dying. I agree w this completely. How “amazing” or horrible it is is completely dependent on your team. I worked under an awful team at GH but also an amazing one. Under the first my work statisfsction was low and under the later it was really high. Team is everything there

like

Avoid GH.

Thanks for the advice, especially you G1. I forgot about Cotton, Kearney, and GT.

Anyone else have any recommendations? I also reached out to Morgan Franklin. I'd like to avoid 8A companies if possible.

It unfortunately seems like I'm going to have to apply for fed positions, which I really dont want to do because I know it'll take 6 months just to start. I really want to leave my current firm.

In case you werent aware, note that Guidehouse is in a big part the former federal division of PWC (big4).

I’m in GT federal practice. Happy to tell you about it! I’ve been on some interesting, challenging analytics projects and the WLB is great

like

Does GH have FM work? Yes. Does Guidehouse have representation and influence in the standards boards and governmental accounting organizations? No.

Again, has nothing to do with it dying. You recommended 8a firms...

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?

A question for the guys: was this a date?! Ran into a guy I knew in college at a bar, he technically asked me out (“we should get drinks sometime” etc), then paid for my drink. But as we were saying bye, it felt kinda platonic? Like just a hug and “good seeing you.” Or is he not interested? How often do you kiss on a first date?
