Herman Miller Aeron
This is the gold standard. Got a refurbished one for like $600 and am considering buying one for my office bc I hate our office chairs now.
Herman Miller Aeron — I know it feels ridiculous to spend $1000+ on an office chair but all those back aches I was used to just stopped. You can find good second hand or refurbished models but I opted for a direct purchase for the long warranty. My firm also had a discount for Herman Miller products in our intranet so it saved me a couple hundred dollars, I’d see if you have something similar

I went with a “gamer chair” as they spend even more time in the seat than working professionals do. I can’t say enough good things about SecretLabs chairs. I had to buy another one for my wife because she kept stealing mine even though her company gave her a Herman Miller

I’ve had mine for 4 years now. It’s amazing and beats the snot out of others I’ve used. Back pain completely gone. So no, not all gamer chairs are terrible ergonomically speaking.

The Herman Miller one that is actually in most offices.
Might have to try this Herman Miller chair, but I got a lazy boy chair from staples for around $500 and it’s my favorite ever. So comfy and the memory foam on Lower back in particular is perfect
Steelcase Gesture
A standing desk
My husband has 6 fused vertebrae and chronic pain and he loves his Herman Miller chair. It’s the sort of chair that forces you to adjust your posture so your back is better long-term as opposed to just being cushiony. He got it from a furniture clearing house that sells furniture bought from failed tech startups LOL. It was half price and essentially brand new.
It was called Liquidation Warehouse in San Mateo, CA and he got the Embody chair there in person. I think he found a listing for it online though and called. He paid like $950. For one that might need to be reupholstered I could see it being sold for less but I don’t know. For what it’s worth I also bought an excellent knockoff Eames chair on Amazon that is real leather for around $650 (and as comfortable as the original) but was not able to find one for the Embody. But maybe it exists!
I have Herman miller aeron and Herman Miller embody. Both are great.

Add a backjoy seat to any chair and it'll do wonders. Lines up your spine properly.
Herman Miller Embody. I don't know what I would do without it.
I wanted something more stylish and got the Laura Davidson Soft Pad Mgmt Chair, which is an Eames knockoff that’s super comfortable, ergonomic, and looks pretty great/midcentury. (Also has the hydraulic lift thing which is neat)
I’m sure Herman Miller and Steelcase are great if your budget is $1200+. I have a Branch Ergonomic chair that costs ~$350 and is super comfortable. After about a year one of the arms broke and the company sent me a replacement right away, no questions asked.
