Couldn’t agree more @MD1. I just wish I had that insight before I wasted a year working there
ECG is living off an old model. They have no investment in analytics other than an acquisition of some small data shop. The leadership has an old school mentality.
I interviewed with them and bowed out because I only see a dinosaur waiting for the meteorite
Yay now everyone is going to list their firm
@M1: let’s take OW for instance. The entire staff was trained on python. Now they are building python analytical models for the client work and then repurposing the models when addressing similar issues at other clients, this refining and adding to the models. This is a smart approach, one that prioritizes tech over billable hours, but it delivers more value, value that can be translated in the billable rate.
Chartis acquired iVantage about 3 years ago, now iVantage is probably one of the more robust strategic and operational benchmarking platforms I’ve seen on the market. I’m not too familiar with Chartis’s go-to-market approach, but I can imagine it’s one that either leads or works in parallel with the iVantage platform, delivering services with technology at the center.
So when I talk of the ‘new consulting model’ it’s a hybrid of OW and Chartis.
I mean, you essentially hit the nail on the head. Clients expect a more technological and analytical approach, one that leverages data both internally and externally to derive actionable insight about the client. You cannot claim to be a consulting firm when you’re primary analytical tool is Excel... at that point you’re just a deck maker with SMEs, which is what I saw at ECG.
They’re in their “infancy” (their word) when it comes to analytical tool adoption and they’re go-to-market approach is still “leverage relationships.” There’s no real market differentiation.
Compare them to Chartis, and I think they’re several levels below
Chartis is great for strategy but still far behind on performance improvement and implementation. They are growing and focused on it, but still a lot of silos and no clear direction. Strategy is their bread and butter.
Depends what type of project but ECG has a strong presence in the hospital and medical group space.
Kaufman Hall for provider strategy
@MD1 curious what you see as a modern model. Proprietary database, tools build on it to provide market insight? Or something else?
@MD1 I’ve heard good things about Chartis but I’m not familiar enough to compare w ECG.
What analytical tools are they using that you don’t think ECG uses? The majority of management consultants I know from McK to Kaufman live in excel for 95% of their modeling, and supplement with SQL and SAS on a limited basis.
What type of work do you want to be doing at said firm?
Atos
Chartis is good
I've come across ECG a few times and while I can't speak to their analytics approach they seem to do a lot of short term staff aug roles for mid level leadership positions within their client's organization. I'd avoid it for that reason alone, from experience I know I'm much happier in the traditional show up with a team and then roll off once the work is done model.
@ Senior Director 1 - Which firms are leading the way in performance improvement?
Does anyone know anything about navigant?
Navigant disbanded their physician group earlier this year but are looking to start up a medical group practice and have been hiring heavily.
I’d love to understand the difference between what Navigant disbanded versus what they are hiring for now. Any insight 🐠?
It didn't really disband. It was by far the smallest of the hc consulting units, so it got rolled up into another unit with overlapping work.
Interesting. We had quite a number of people apply/interview with us saying it was disbanded, but idk 🤷🏼♂️
