Best credit card for travel perks?

How common is it to use a personal credit card for expenses?... Thinking to ramp up personal Chase sapphire points.

Do I switch to American in 2016? Currently with United and use a Chase Sapphire as my daily card. DC based (both IAD and DCA are local to me).

Have you guys ever bought gift card from store using AMEX and use them during travel days. For example: Starbucks, Chipotle.

Amex rewards is not as well as cards like Marriott or Citi AAdvantage. Isn't it better sometimes to use your card for expenses, but report it correctly and be reimbursed?

Anyone know if my Delta AMEX will grant me access to the KLM lounge even if I'm not flying a SkyTeam Alliance airline? AMEX site says yes, but KLM lounge site says no.
