At one time I had status on most airlines and hotels but I never bothered to focus on accumulating points since it seemed like they were infinite and I booked on convenience. Oh have times changed! I even let go of Amex platinum, just wasn’t worth it to me. Base airport LAX/SNA so no airline pref.

Leisure travel is out of my budget, but I have been able to get a large number of travel credit card points to from referring friends after making a Facebook post. That feels like a once and done opportunity. Does anyone here use credit cards to get significant enough points to travel with? Do you have tips on how you sustain the flow of points?

Do you fly out to family for the holidays or do they come to you? We're hosting Christmas for the first time and having the entire family come to town for it. What are some can't miss holiday events in the city? Ideally accessible because my father is in a wheelchair.

Just used a meaningful amount of AMEX points for the first time to buy flights to Greece for my wife and I. Emirates business class both ways for 2 people, 290k pts total or 145k each way for 2 tickets. Plus another 30k to get us round trip domestic connecting flights bringing the total to 320 points. This is on the 777 which isn’t the best business class product out there, but I’ve never flown international outside of coach and think it will still be worthwhile. Think this is an OK redemption?
