I've got into tech about 5 years ago since then I've worked in SQL, excel, database administration, PowerShell, html, some python, shell, SharePoint, power automate, power apps, various apis and other software.

I feel like I just keep taking on small bits of information/skills but never get specialized. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here or been in a similar situation?

Planning to take the CIPP and CIPM. Will be doing self-study. What is the “book” everyone refers to for studying? Is it just the “study guide” the IAPP sells? How can I go about looking for a mentor as a software engineer? I am almost 3 years into my software engineering career and I feel I haven’t learned and done as much in 3 years as I should have. My firm is really great. Mid sized regional firm. People are great, work is great. But I’m a junior and there are zero mid levels in my specific office. I’m questioning if I am getting the proper training as other juniors at other firms. The pay is good for a firm of this size with its presence, but feel like someone with my level of experience should be trying to get the proper training in order to succeed as I progress. I recently graduated with a bachelors in finance, and have recently got hired (5 months ago) as a financial analyst. Realistically I do FP&A for a company. I have realized I am not a huge fan of doing non stop spreadsheet all day. Am thinking I’d enjoy my career more by becoming a financial planner and getting my CFP certification. Maybe in the future opening up my own firm. Any advice on what career move to make next in order to accomplish this? CFP requires 3 years of relative experience.

Worst part of consulting is we rarely get to participate in these natural days of unproductivity with the rest of the corporate world because clients still expect you to be on point no matter what’s happening around you. My investment banker friend tells me he works no more than 50 hours a week, and spends most of the time just reviewing decks, mentoring juniors, and building relationships (ie. Drinking at parties). Seems like a low stress job on the surface, but what is he not telling me..? Lol

My wife is a Chartered Accountant with 7+ years of experience as credit manager, underwriting loans with some leading banks in India. She just got her EAD and is looking for jobs, open to switch profiles as well. Do you think she would fit in for any role here in Seattle, WA? She has been a star performer and promoted twice in the last 3 years. One problem is companies look for US experience which she does not have, we just moved here early this year.
