Hi Fishers, I want to pivot my career into management consultant. I am currently working as a Market research analyst with 1 YOE. Can someone please suggest me how or where should I start to build my career in management consulting at Big 4.
Also, please suggest entry level jobs that I will be eligible for with skills in Strategy, primary and secondary research, and competitor analysis.
Thanks in advance!

In my market:
GT: big fat NO
BDO: no
RSM: ok
Dixon Hughes: yes
Crowe: yes
Aprio: yes
CB: possibly
The above is based on personal experience or my close network’s experience. Tax only and I don’t have experience on the other service lines.
I can second GT as a big fat NO 😂

Ha I found you! Sneaking kpmg in and I like it
Do you want each of us to list firms #5-15 or do you want to do a Google search? This is also highly dependent on location, speciality, etc.
No need to bring this energy to this forum SA1. Answer with kindness or scroll on.

Totally confused on your comment “no set expectations for charge hours.” We all have very clear charge hour goals broken down by pay period.
From your experience I wonder if you talked to anyone about your confusion other than the senior? It’s a big team and each engagement will have a partner and likely and senior manager and/or manager. Even at a great firm, there’s a few people that may be having a rough time. Also, seniors are just developing their management skills. Perhaps you were working with one who was early in that process.

Crowe is trying to be exactly like Big 4 . . . They don’t care about their employees. Plus, you were looking for diverse industry experience. Crowe forces people to specialize.

I went from KPMG to RSM and am much happier at RSM.

What firm did you move to for a 40% raise?
Depends on what you like about PA, location and service line. But, my vote goes to RSM. We’re a lot like B4, but....Not.
I don’t mind focusing on a specific industry. I think I’ve just figured out that I don’t like IM. Unfortunately that is the majority of what the tax clients in my office are, so I don’t have much opportunity to experience working on clients in other industries.

There is 0 day to day difference other than non B4 = possibility of no PCAOB and bouncing between several clients throughout the year.
I came to Crowe after big four. I think it’s better but don’t think it’s making me want to stay in public that much longer. We work on a bunch of small low budget clients and staffing in constantly an issue. Hours and culture is better though
Damn I didn’t get a signing bonus to join GT as a senior and you got a signing bonus for coming over as a staff....
Hard to say. Depends on what Line of Business you're in, what teams/clients you're on, and which industry or focus you take. A lot factors play into a great or terrible experience in PA. I guess some firms will generally have a better culture than others but that won't matter if you're on a high stressed team on a client with tight deadlines and rude people.
