There is an app called SoloLearn you should try. Also, if your employer doesn’t offer to pay for your learning materials for Python/SQL then you should explore other employers.

Thanks I’ll check it out. I’m in consulting right now where we really only use to excel but trying to switch to industry. Usually able to land interviews and get to final round but haven’t had any luck getting offers. Hoping to give myself a leg up by building some technical skills.

I learn sql via a colleague. They show me the syntax and give me some simple tasks. I will Google and finger most of them myself. Then comepare my work w my colleagues. I learn a lot when work on project. And the best part is it doesn't feel painful rather so fun and addictive as problem solving games

I’d just look at Udemy…they do “sales” all the time and you can get a solid course for $9.99…that’s how I learned Tableau and Alteryx when I was in consulting…also, my firm reimbursed me for the courses….are you trying to get into Analytics roles? Trying to understand why you’re in consulting and wanting to switch to industry, but want to improve tech skills….you’re not trying to get into strategy?

I work at a non big 4 transaction advisory group (think GT or BDO) I would like to get into corporate strategy but it’s hard to compete with the mass exodus of IBs and MBBs. I’m still early on in figuring out what to do next but I’m thinking either trying to make the switch to bigger management consulting firm or jumping into FP&A at a F100 and networking into a corporate strategy role.

Mistakes are the learned lessons to a better career. But every time I have made a mistake, it seems like it is the end of the world. I want to hear stories...of a time where you made a mistake and your superiors did not freak out, but used it as a lesson for you. does that exist anywhere?

I have always taught my students that life is a path of actions and consequences that are a result of those prior actions; positive actions positive consequences, negative actions negative consequences. I change the vocabulary from "I'm giving you a ___" to "You're earning a ___ with your actions." I start my first day with this lesson and have frequent reminders of this throughout the year. This has always been a successful strategy.

I am teaching as an adjunct at my alma mater. I am focusing a class on life as an attorney and the different roles your substantive background can bring you to and tips/tricks/antidotes for survival. What are the things you wish someone told you as a 2L or 3L about life and law and your practice? Things to focus on or ignore? Lessons learned the hard way? Would love to crowd source bullets on this outside of my own experience (and my guest speakers who are unfortunately all male except for 1).

How many teachers set their own curriculum, meaning that you come up with everything you teach and assess? Beyond that, how many teachers are expected to change up their content almost every year? As a high school English teacher, I develop everything myself or collaborate with my (frankly amazing) coworkers. We are asked constantly to find new, modern books to buy and to develop curriculum around them (because our subject is more skill based). Wondering if other districts/subjects do the same.
