Best strategies to stay alert (not just awake) working late evenings? I’m already all over fizzy water, tea and walks, but wanted to harness the power of fishbowl to see if I’m missing any tips to try.

get up every 20-30 min or so to stretch and move around for a couple minutes. I do a couple squats or jumping jacks or anything to get the blood moving a little.

Crippling anxiety does wonders for me. But actually, I am not a big caffeine person day to day so that does it for me. Also if you can stand and work (like a standing desk) that helps too.

THC-free CBD capsules with CoQ10 (Beam is my go-to brand). I’ll drink with some cold water and can work productively through the evening without adverse impact on my bedtime/sleep. Mix in some handstand holds/handstand push-ups every 30-45 minutes.

A9- which clock did you pick? I’d like one but I’ve heard mixed reviews about some

I watch movies in the background that I have seen hundreds of times (Star Wars is great because you can run through the whole series). I don’t end up watching it or listening to it, but it helps me feel like I’m not alone working late - and it helps trick my brain into thinking I’m doing something fun.

You should watch Slow TV. They are marathon TV shows filmed by Norway on things like the joy of burning wood (essentially - chopping wood, stacking wood, burning wood for about 8 hours) or marathon knitting. It used to be on Netflix. Pluto TV still shows them, but you only get what they are showing and I have yet to see those two. Instead, they show boats or trains traveling mundane routes, which I find so uneventful that it annoys me to have in the background.

A walk. Vitamin B complex. CoQ10. There are some great natural vitamins with green tea extract that in a pinch make me move like Flash Gordon. Anyone remember him?

Burpees

Music (like an old school playlist from when I was a teen) gets me through it. But I know a lot of people can’t have music with lyrics while working, but I can, and rocking out has really helped me

I would appreciate any advice on how to stay on top of non urgent tasks. As a 2nd year, I’m often tapped to handle tedious tasks that need to get done quickly. Tbh, I like urgent matters. It motivates me and helps me focus. I admittedly struggle to care about checking in on DWQs, record requests, OC’s discovery, scheduling matters, etc. Especially with so many cases. I definitely rely heavily (maybe over rely?) on the paralegals for these sort of things. Any tips?

Plaintiffs counsel took my clients deposition today. He mentioned that he would likely be ordering the transcripts and I suggested we split the cost of them (in front of court reporter). He got pretty defensive and said absolutely not, it’s unfair to the court reporter, and that it is frowned upon in the industry to do that. Each party orders (and pays for) their own copy. I’m in my 2nd year of practice, never heard such a thing. I’ve actually split the cost before! Curious for insight on this…
