Yeah, but at least you asked. Half of people would just trudge through whatever they’re given. Keep asking.

OP- I know you’re coming in as an entry level hire but if your experience manager asks you to describe what a great project means to you, what’s your response ?

This is a legit answer. You may not get it right away but when it comes time again to find am project, you’ve started the conversation and put the idea in peoples heads

You pretty much don’t have any control over what project you’re staffed on unless you go on the bench at first

If you are an associate level, or even a new senior associate, I wouldn’t try pick and choose. One of the things strongest A/SAs do well is they perform no matter the project. Sometimes sticking through tough projects but coming out strong at the end can earn you a good brand for yourself and much more leverage on next projects. Key is working with the right people who will recognize that and support you for it

Ask the right questions to find the red flags to learn which projects to avoid as managers/PPMDs will paint a beautiful picture for you and trap you for a year. Ask if telework is available and currently being practiced, what current challenges they are facing with transformation efforts, is the role a backfill and how long has it been vacant, how many have been in that role prior and for what duration, team building events, clearance upgrade potential, and what work will be available to develop to consultant level. Recommend to Network with your peers and gain certifications to make yourself more marketable to projects where you have a couple to select from.
