You will never escape the politics aspect of performance reviews. The severity might change depending on the firm, but it will always be there to some degree. Most people are subjective and emotional, which means they playing politics and being well liked will always benefit you. Better to understand that now and use it to your advantage.

likefunny

I define politics as things like saying the right thing at the right time to the right people, as well as actions that lead arriving to defined outcome. So for example say your on a project, and you know you need to tell your SM something, but you know your Manger doesn’t like to be out of the loop, so you stop their desk and give them a quick update just to make them happy. It can also be a bit more devious. Such as you have two SMs arguing about a projects approach, nothing that will materially impact the work just a difference in thought, and you agree with the approach of Senior Manager 1, but you know at the end of the project senior manager 2 is doing your review, or you heard from the grape vine Senior Manager 2 carries more weight on CRTs, so you say you agree with with Senior Managers 2 approach, that way you get on senior manager 2 good side. Politics can also pertain to more fun things as well. Let’s say you hate going to team happy hours, but you force yourself to go and drink with your bosses, network and build relationships. It isn’t 1 or 2 individual actions, but it’s the accumulation of multiple actions to try to get a desired result.

Those who switched from audit to fp&a - could you provide any tips on how to tailor the resume to get interviews? I’m a senior at B4 with CPA and have applied 90+ companies but no interviews yet. In my resume I highlighted my experience in reviewing budget to actual variances, forecast models, valuation reports, using excel, etc., which I think is relevant to fp&a. How should I further polish my resume to increase my chances of getting interviews? TIA!

Is the promotional structure in Big 4 TAS/FDD similar to how it is in Big 4 Audit? E.g. 2 yrs at associate, 2-3 yrs at senior, etc?
Or is it more merit based where you’re promoted when ready, e.g. 1-1.5 yrs at associate, 1.5-2 yrs at senior, etc?
If the latter, what’s the fastest you’ve seen someone get promoted and at which levels? Thanks

Can any company (big 4) terminate an individual if he has not declared during the interviews or hr round that he has been on full time employment for 2-3 months. On the basis of UAN or form 16 can the company terminate him. Will it be affecting background check if he has not shown that exp in cv or anywhere.
