What makes it harder is that we have to deliver the ideas we put on paper.
A bunch of us made our careers at Andersen / Accenture by running to clients behind the MBB engagements and asking clients if they had any idea what to do next.
That’s a significant deal size for a 6-12 week engagement when you compare it to a typical big-4 engagement. In fact never come across something like that before.
And I think those days are rapidly ending
Was a partner at both and Big 4 is much easier. But Big 4 also pay you half as much. So it’s an even trade.
Big 4 is a more metric driven culture and achieving the desired results can be quite difficult.
Price point doesn’t help, as it is generally completely different services.
What’s the average size of a typical MBB strategy engagement if it can be generalized like that?
Well, MBB does less and less pure strategy and more big transformations. A “typical” strategy or similar project would be 6-12 weeks, team of 1+3 or 1+4, somewhere in the $2-4m range
I was a BCG partner a year ago. We would never get away with $4M for a team for 12 weeks.
Sometimes we bid higher than MBB as well. I've lost deals where that was a factor (other factors were in play as well)
