Why should you be satisfied? Work is a big part of our lives. Even if you have a 9-5 job (unlikely for lawyers), that’s most of your day, everyday. No job is going to be perfect, but it’s worth trying to find something you enjoy day to day. Also, you never know when things may go south and you get laid off. You’ll have a hard time then if you technically have 15 years of experience but you haven’t grown much in the last 5 of them.

This is my fear - right here! I’m approaching that pivotal 15 year mark this year and feel like my last couple of years are not reflective of that. I love my industry which is why a change in industry is making me nervous, but I agree with you about the growth 100%. I’ve been trying to create growth opportunities where I am for me and my team, but my boss shuts every one of them down. I think he’s afraid I’ll get poached so he’s trying to reduce visibility, but all it’s doing is making me feel under-utilized, undervalued, and resentful....

Nothings wrong with you? I’m guessing you have the age energy to really push yourself, If you were 60s or about to start a family I would say keep what’s comfy, if you’re trying to grow and be challenged take the job! It’s business

like

I thought that, but folks keep telling me - that’s crazy, suck it up, that’s why everyone else stays in my org.... so, I’m questioning myself and my instincts. I have a family, but my hubby stays at home now and my kids are growing up (not out of the house yet tho). I’ve enjoyed being home more and I enjoyed having less responsibility for a time, but if they’re not developing me, I’m not feeling confident about that GC path anymore... Plus, my current org is full return to work/no WFH after July. New job is like be here 3 days a week and we’re good AND we’re already considering a path for growth...

Why would something be wrong with you? You don’t have to be satisfied with anything. For some people, you have the dream job already. But that doesn’t mean it has to be your job.

Hey guys. I have a technical interview with AlixPartners restructuring and turnaround team. This is for their summer intern position. I didn’t come from a restructuring background. Does anyone have an idea of what might get asked in the interview? Is it going to be very restructuring specific or some general accounting/ finance/ operational sides of topics.

Need advice- How do I make my LinkedIn profile more attractive to recruiters from FAANG or MBB apart from listing the relevant experience? It seems like all recruiters that are reaching out lately, are from small firms and for jobs with lower compensation than my current position. When I tell them my desired compensation they think it is too high.

I feel terrible. My mum and my husband both told me I am fat and need to lose weight ASAP. They were not trying to insult me, they both really think they have my best in interest. I am a mother of 11 months old twins, am still breastfeeding and currently have 11kg more than before pregnancy. I was always skinny and before pregnancy wore size 8. I feel so bad for hearing that, and feel like a failure on all levels.

Hey ladies. Can we take a second to talk about friendship? As a working mother of two that works from home, I’m finding it hard to making friends or maintaining friendships. How have you built your tribe of support and friendship as an adult? Can anyone relate?

Feeling conflicted about wanting to leave my current company of a year where I feel I’m underpaid (despite praise from managers), though I love my coworkers and (sometimes) the work/clients. I know I can make a lateral jump somewhere else to make more, and I don’t want to get left behind in this hot market. I would be really sad to leave my current role, but really want/need more money. Anyone else going through this?

I am 11 weeks pregnant with history of miscarriage and termination due to abnormal 12 week ultrasound, hence considered as a high risk pregnancy. I just received green light that I made to SM. My project is already crazy with long hours daily and now having made SM starting June, they expect me to take care of more that one project and RFPs to build business. Any advice on how to handle this situation considering I want to communicate my pregnancy post 20 weeks?

Do you guys at BCG think it would be a smart decision to make a lateral move to PL from Big 4? Have great network and support at current company. The MBB brand, 20k increase in TC, and potential better exit opportunities would be reasons to move. Worried about the challenges of starting from scratch at BCG, proving myself as IC in first few projects, and probably a worse WLB. Would love any insights TIA!

Hey 🐠! I wanted to share a podcast that I came across this week. It’s targeted towards people who grew up in homes with mental illness. I myself had a mother who was likely Borderline/Bipolar (per a psychiatrist I saw myself - i hadn’t even heard of Borderline at the time). While I have ‘divorced’ my mother, I had a daughter about a year ago my mother has started spinning up again. I went looking for information to validate that I am making the right decision and found this podcast cathartic.

A wonderful friend recommended me to a recruiter, when the recruiter was looking to place a creative. This role is at a small agency, I’m going to be paired with a Sr. Copywriter. They’re looking for a conceptual thinker and brilliant designer, no pressure. I have some internships and some freelance under my belt since graduating portfolio school, and a current laptop that’s running on fumes ha. I’m intimidated, cautious, yet super grateful to finally hear from someone. Any words of wisdom?

One of the primary aims of the criminal justice reform movement is to help ex-convicts re-enter the workforce by sealing criminal records, and making it more difficult for employers to judge applicants based on criminal history. The idea is that people are redeemable and capable of reform. Yet the same movement thoroughly enjoys getting people fired and publicly shaming them for making arguments they find “offensive”. A rapist is capable of reform, but not someone who makes a dumb tweet. Got it.

After getting promoted in Feb 2020 (lol fml) I designed and implemented a significant piece of data infrastructure that is beyond what’s expected of someone at my level. In 2021, I was not recognized for this accomplishment and a guy who knows nothing about the technology was promoted over me. It’s been a year since his promotion & the wheels are starting to come off: others are becoming increasingly aware of his ineptitude. What’s the best way to subtly pour gasoline on this fire?
