Law Exit Opportunities

Big law mid-level, East Coast office. I’ll be leaving my firm at the end of Q1 2020 to relocate to TX for spouse’s job. Was already looking in-house; now contemplating a career break. Any advice?

Are you set on leaving? Or is an office transfer, remote work, or LOA an option for you? From personal experience, it isn't easy to be in a new city and not have anything grounding you work-wise. I ended up on the job market much longer than I'd anticipated and it kind of put the rest of my life on hold.

Yea, gaps are hard to plan unfortunately speaking from personal experience. Depending on how long it is, it may become an issue in your search and you won’t have as much bargaining power. I’d try and work remotely and see if that is manageable while you search. Maybe being away from the home office will ease the burnout? It might take you 1 month, 6, or more to find a new job, and depending on how you feel about the uncertainty that could become very stressful. Good luck!

To what city are you moving? I agree about avoiding gaps in enjoyment but sometimes that doesn't work out. And, sometimes people just need to take a break and refresh. I work with in-house and law firm clients. Please DM me if you're open to talking more.

I’m on a part-time rotation with another team. I regularly ask the manager for work and barely receive any. Worried since my utilization is taking a hit. Any recommendations??

Hi! Quick question, is it possible to modify data in Power BI or Tableau to modify a table in S3? I would like to give the client a model in Python and that they can change parameters in PowerBi or Tableau.

For those who have gone through Mck First Round/Final Round - could you talk about how the interview took place? I am a bit worried as it might be hard to connect with the interviewer when the process is not in-person. Did you have a phone call or a Zoom call with video, and did it feel awkward? Thanks for your help!

What comp can we expect to target after 2 YOE? I’m not miserable in consulting but don’t think I get paid enough. With my promotion in a month, I’ll be hitting 100k and I want to only leave if I can get 110k or more (going for strategy, PM, and a few startup roles). Is that realistic? whens the best time to leave for max comp in the long term?
