Doesn't always work, but I've offered these trouble clients discounts on the fee quote if they get the info in to us (the info they can control, like deductions, 1099's that are out in February, etc, as opposed to K-1's that we don't prepare) by a certain date.

Yeah, the best way I've found so far to deal with is to work with them back and forth (this schedule doesn't tie, can you fix it and give it back to me?) and hope next year they learn. Also the extra bill for "accounting services" or "out of scope" for an exclamation point to the problem. Middle market woes, big 4 would either send big bill or fire the client.😕
