Biglaw mid level thinking of lateraling, but also planning on trying to conceive this year. Working with a recruiter who says she has placed pregnant associates before and it isn’t a problem, but she has financial incentive to want me to move jobs. Should I stay put? Go back on birth control (not pregnant yet)? Generally happy and well liked where I am, but path to partnership is basically non-existent. Lateral move would be in hopes of better partnership prospects.

I would suggest starting the process because you can always choose to stay. I lateraled at 6 months pregnant. Started the process of looking before I knew I was pregnant, but was generally planning on conceiving. It’s obviously not the easiest transition because it’s actually a double transition (pre-leave and post-leave). The process was pretty illuminating for me. When I was discussing the offer from my new firm, they were so supportive and helpful re my pregnancy that it made the decision super easy. My team has been great since starting and it cemented that I made the right choice. I was fully prepared to stay where I was, even though I didn’t love it, rather than go somewhere that wasn’t going to be welcoming.

How old are you and how many kids do you want? I was in a similar position as a fifth year, switched firms and delayed IVF thinking that I couldn’t pass up the job opportunity, and the firm I went to was terrible. I had to switch jobs again and then start ivf. Overall it was a 2 year delay, and I had my first (and current only) at 32 instead of 30.

I had my first and only at 34. It is exhausting being an older parent while working a law job. My body just cannot keep up with super sporty activities. Also, I am generally more tired than I was even in my late 20s.

On the flip side, I am much more chill now. Even with this being my first, I don’t freak out over things I know I would have freaked out over if I was younger when I had my son. So, there are positives and negatives to having kids at any age.

I was a contract worker and was offered a full time employee position when I had just learned I was pregnant. I disclosed that I was pregnant before accepting the offer and negotiated three weeks of paid time off as part of my salary negotiations because I was our primary breadwinner and we couldn’t afford for me to miss any weeks of pay.

How do you manage going back into public accounting as a first time mom? Our first kid is due this summer and I’ve been having conversations with my husband on plans for going back to work post-maternity leave. He is worried about my ability to be there for mom duties and also fully commit to work so curious on how other working moms have managed this - especially type A personalities. Thanks!

Thoughts on becoming a "Growth & New Initiatives PM"?

I was a regular PM managing my own vertical and now have the opportunity for a new role in the org. No promo or cash related, just jurisdiction wise.

I'd be focusing on:
For old product-

-automation
For new product-
-Building out from scratch
-UI/UX related user feedback
-sales and marketing focus
-use cases and features

Is this a good move career wise? Love being a PM and looking to grow.

So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise
