Should not practice law if you engage in unethical billing practices.

likefunny

Right, I’m not trying to parrot the post. I am responding to the post by saying that people who engage in the outlined behavior should not practice law. Or maybe they should transition to a job that will not lead them to be unethical.

For example, having a bunch of client’s money under one’s control promotes embezzlement. If one starts embezzling, it’s a clear sign that one is headed in the wrong direction and should not engage in such a behavior/pursue something else if the temptation is too hard to resist.

Hi everyone. I’ve been interviewing with major tech companies like HubSpot, Shopify, and Smartsheet. I’m applying for jobs as an assoc. project/program manager or marketing PM. Me: 2 yoe as an official marketing PM in tech (5+ overall PM). I get to the 2nd stage of interview then get rejected. Reason: mving fwd w/ candidates w/ stronger experience. I’m feeling defeated. Are there specific things I should really focus on? Not sure why they would choose me if I don’t qualify.

I am a big believer that “Resume experience does not equal quality” as I have seen people with less experience in a specific role have more understanding and quality than some who had 5+ years experience. Again this is “resume experience” as in the amount of time in a title

I think I could be a Sr. Product Manager and my company’s definition probably doesn’t capture the requirements well. Wondering what you guys think I would need in order to truly fulfill a Sr role outside time with title”.

Feel like every day is so boring and repetitive and in the end there’s no point in anything. Even if there are things I’m “looking forward” to I dont want to have to feel ok only when I have smth to look forward to bc then itll always be just a cycle. How do people genuinely just enjoy day to day and be content?

I have my annual review and salary negotiations coming up next month. I am a third year doing general litigation in a big firm in LA. I am currently in the $100,000-$125,000 range billing 2100. Hi everyone! Junior associate in big law here. My wife got a job in Chicago and we are looking to move there by January. I am not licensed in Illinois yet but will be taking the bar in February. My firm is allowing me to lateral to our Chicago office but mentioned that “I needed to be bared before we can do that.” Anyone here know if I can still practice starting in January until I get my results back? I am barred in Indiana and do M&A work. Thanks!

What do you guys consider “corporate” work?

I am seeing a ton of jobs posted for corporate attorneys, but some listings don’t include any kind of focus like securities or M&A?

Would just any kind of work for a big business fall under this umbrella? Litigation is pretty obvious, so everything not under litigation?!?

Latam corporate associate here. Fully fluent in Spanish, with most work, negotiations, calls and correspondence being in Spanish. Pro tip - unless you can negotiate an agreement in another language, please don’t put it on your LinkedIn/firm profile. The clients don’t care if you can ask “where’s the bathroom” in German, and it diminishes the skills for those of us who really are fluent.

Do you reply to client emails saying thank you? If so, what do you say?

“You’re welcome” sounds too formal.

“No problem” sounds too informal.

“Anytime” sounds like an invitation to get requests all weekend and all night.

“My pleasure” is clearly a lie when it comes to most legal work.

At what point did you start using a financial advisor?

I just paid off my student loans (!!!) and literally put every spare dime towards them. Now that I don't have that payment, I'm trying to build back my safety net (currently only have 15K).

Since it's called "wealth management", I feel like I should build some actual wealth first haha. But I'm not sure how much I should save first.

So when did you first seek out an advisor? I'm a 3rd year, late 20s, single, no kids, so no other costs.

Anyone know anything about what it’s like to work plaintiff-side? Would it be dumb for someone with stellar credentials to leave biglaw for plaintiffs’ side work?

Nobody has really ever explained much about this side of private practice to me. From what I can tell based on my experience:
(1) their cases are usually really weak (maybe my biglaw defense-side bias)
(2) their lawyers tend not to be as highly credentialed
(3) would offer better experiences for junior litigators
