Thinking about tomorrow’s convocation! I hate convocations! I consider them a monumental waste of time. I don’t need a pep rally to start my year off right. I need time in my room to center myself and organize.
I'm looking for a recommendation for a ski resort/ski instructor for my 6 and 9-year-olds, any suggestions would be great.
What do people think of Harvard Extension School degrees? Looks like a cash cow to me with such a low bar for admissions.

When in the interview process is it appropriate to bring up flexibility? Don’t want to put myself out of the running, but don’t want to waste my time if they’re super rigid. Going in for R2 next week.

Do your law firms encourage associates to bring in business/clients? Do you know of any law firms that offer referral fees or does it affect bonuses if you successfully bring a deal to your firm? How else do firms keep track of clients brought by associates?
Has anyone dealt with appealing NJ Unemployment disqualification of benefits? Specifically when almost a year has lapsed since receipt of benefits and now NJDOL is demanding full repayment of same. At least one appeal has been written and rejected by recipient of benefits (friend in health care) and they are now requesting assistance.
Is it normal to not have had any job interviews after about 6 months of working with recruiters? Trying to gauge my progress here, I feel like my job search has been a huge waste of time. When people say it takes them 6 months to a year to find a new gig, that’s not surprising. But I’m kind of wondering if I should have gotten a few interviews by now. I’m working with three different recruiters

How big of a time commitment is adjunct teaching at a law school? Is it manageable while still practicing full time?
Partner just railed into me for using a sentence that, according to him, made no sense. He then said that if I didn’t understand why that was the case, maybe he needed to have the entire firm take a writing course. This is what I wrote in a pleading (changing the exact wording except for the phrase “This posed very difficult,” which the partner said didn’t make any sense): (continued in comments)
Clients who overreact and yell might be my new favorite. I love their reaction to a calm response 😂 firmly saying, “ma’am” or “sir” almost makes them more pissed off
Data Privacy/Cybersecurity attorneys — what does a day to day look like? I keep seeing job openings for these positions.
Shout out to those who, like me, choose the boutique firm life over big law. Managing partner told me I am crushing billing - said I’m the rockstar on our team. My average billing for the past three months is 6.6 hours per day. Unpopular opinion: making big law money in exchange for big law hours doesn’t mean you make more money; it just means you work more.
What is the craziest question have you been asked during an interview?? I had gentleman ask me why I didn’t get a job directly after undergrad 2011!! This was just yesterday!! Sir that was 12 years ago!! 😒 Just send me my rejection letter and call it a day!! Lol
Just lateraled and looks like I’ll be taking on a sizeable privacy practice from an associate who left recently. Any benefit to CIPP and CIPM training/certification as a lawyer? In DC if that matters.
Anyone gone from 1900 to 2000 billable hours required? It’s for more money but I’m scared.
I hate my job. I work dozens of child sex assault cases and my team is understaffed. Turnover is insane, haven't been able to go more than two months without another attorney or paralegal resigning. Management doesn't care and just keeps foisting the work on the new people till they burn out too. I'm only here because I need the paternity leave when my newlywed wife and I have our first kid. If it weren't for that I would be searching for a new job right now. Just wanted to rant, sorry.
Quit or wait to be fired? Not eligible for unemployment and lots of new job applications inquire about if you were ever fired.
Anyone else feel motivated to work on holidays and other days where most Americans are not working?! (Or is it just me??)
I am a junior equity partner with no book of business (very small firm with no NEPs). Commercial and general litigation and employment law background. Work is down at my firm and I made less this past year than I did as a senior associate. I’m scared it won’t pick back up and my senior partners are close to retirement. Not super interested in doing the work to bring in a bunch of my own large clients (I have brought in a few for smaller matters). Besides in-house, what are my other options?
I am considering switching practice areas. I currently practice in personal injury litigation on the defense side. I have been in the PI practice in some way, shape or form for the last 9 years. However, I think it’s time for a change for me. I have always found trust and estate work to be interesting and would like to transition into that area of practice, on both the litigation and planning end of it. I am looking for guidance as to how to switch over. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Please provide tips on how to organize my work email. I am constantly bombarded by emails throughout the day, including those that I am cc’d on, which make it hard to find the emails that need my immediate attention 🥴🥴
Let’s say I want to switch firms and take my book of business. How to approach this with my clients without running afoul of ethical rules, but still getting their input?
