Start eating chia seeds, like chia seed pudding. Super high in fiber. Eat 1/4c chia seed pudding 3x day to cut the laxatives then wean to 2x then 1x in the morning. This is an issue where you need LOTS more fiber in your diet. Make the chia pudding today, let it sit overnight and start this process tomorrow morning. Don’t eat any nuts for at least the next 7 days (including today).

OP - I have been in your situation, and 2 things helped me: cut back on iron supplements (which I need because of RLS) and taking chia seeds (I can't do the pudding because of the texture, so I just take a heaping teaspoon every morning as is with 12 ounces of water). The combination really helped me. It takes a few days, but I have been able to avoid using laxatives since I started doing this.
I went to a urigynecologist who recommended pelvic floor therapy. It helped. Oddly there is a connection. Also consider a squatty potty - just google it and don’t judge :-) I am 100 percent with you on how you feel !

I didn't even know that was a thing! Thanks
Sorry to hear you are going through this. Please don’t be ashamed to seek professional medical help. Maybe try posting this in a doctors forum so you can get the right help or try getting a virtual doc visit where you can turn off your camera if it helps with lessening the burden of shame. Feel better

I didn't know her was a doctor's forum on here. Thanks for that suggestion and your kind words

Are you in therapy to work on your shame that is preventing you from seeing a doctor? I’d highly recommend that. Many people deal with similar shame. And there’s help out there.
Also, hard to say if and how you can wean yourself off without having a better understanding what’s even causing you to have issues passing bowel movements. What’s your diet like? Often, that’s a big factor.
And what works for one person may just make things worse for someone else — because your underlying causes and/or conditions may be vastly different. When it comes to potentially serious issues like this, it could be dangerous crowdsourcing medical advice from internet strangers who don’t even work in healthcare.
Find a female physician that is empathetic. Then just lay it all out — you can do that in written form btw if you are too scared to talk to them first

I think you’d benefit from seeing a nutritionist and gastrointestinal doctor.

As others have pointed out, and as you know, you must see a doctor. I’ve had so many random stomach issues and GI doctors literally spend their whole day talking about poop. I promise it’s not weird or shameful to them.

Honestly, please go see a doctor. There’s no reason for you to feel shame. This is why doctors exist. There’s nothing they haven’t heard and nothing that anyone tells you here is valid medical advice (unless someone on here is a gastroenterologist and hasn’t mentioned it). You’re damaging your health by trying to self-diagnose and self-medicate.
Had problems for many years passing BM, got lots of hemorrhoids for it, completely changed my diet to adjust to my healthier eating partner, and went from laxatives 1x a week and being constipated to being able to pass BM almost daily (depending on menstrual cycle- have a difficult time week leading up to period). This required lots of diet changes that I read about but didn’t realize how much of an impact would be
What does your diet in a given week look like?
I promise doctors have all dealt with so many worse things than this! I have had worms and had to poop in cups and everyone was very professional
Ok I’m intrigued. How did you find out you had worms? I’ve always been curious and think I probably have them. I eat raw food all the time and eat questionable street food when I travel
Have you heard of “Seed”? It’s a probiotic pill for gut health and primarily BM. I just started it last week because I too am very irregular and it was making me really bloated. While I’m only on day 5, I have really noticed a difference with quick BM’s.
Yes to Probiotics
No shame, may I ask if you have any improvement room in your eating habits? Hard to pass poop is usually due to dehydration and not enough fiber. Drink lots of water - for fiber, Kiwi and cooker kale does the trick for me. Also, if you are on a diet and don't eat a lot, low BM is also expected. In this case, eat a LOT of salad to compensate for low eating volume.
Also, don't be ashamed, we need to poop to keep alive and you'd be surprised how many adults have problem with it. I think the stat was like around 30% of adults have a problem with hemorrhoids.
For me lots of water like maybe 3/4 - 1 gallon and some benefiber help

Assuming you get enough fiber, did you try cutting out dairy/lactose for the constipation issue?
Laxatives can be “addictive” in a way. You need to figure out the source of the issue
There is also a staying healthy bowl -
I went 4 years with IBS and just finally went to a GI doctor. Felt so validating to get a full work up and diagnostic. Felt the best I have in a long time :) you can do this!
Eat four prunes a day, everyday. Have patience and you’ll never turn back
Wow, are you me? I’m dependent on stool softeners because of a botched hemorrhoid surgery. I also take daily fiber supplements.

C1: I had that surgery as well. Not that it did much good bc they came back. I'm so tired of spending so much time and energy into something that should be easy. Sex, traveling with people and sharing a room/ bathroom.. it all requires so much mental energy
Try drinking a little of aloe vera juice (with pulp) first thing in mornings. That has other health benefits in addition to laxative wualitirs
Switch to brown rice, game changer
I was dealing w a similar issue and saw a GI. Switched to psyllium husk pills (fiber alternative) and it regulated my bowels in a week.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me at all - it made me gassy, but didn't actually make things move.
