May be biased, but I think Manager is the best time to exit. I’m already worried that with my comp I’m almost priced myself out to pivot to industry. I presume I can transfer to industry as a Director at this point

If you’d like to be a highly paid individual contributor, SC. If you want to leave and manage people, M.

There isn't much representation of black consultants at my firm, let alon at the higher levels. That may be changing, and I do think there are opportunities to push forward if you have the right mentorship. I don't plan to stay in consulting so SC/M is the best time for me to leave (I'm at that level currently and looking to leave)

I think there's oppurtunity to grow to partnership at my firm but I'm not a fan of consulting so I'm leaving for an MBA this summer.

I think exit opportunities just depend on your background. I exited as C and my next company put me at M, so I skipped all over SC and the nonsense firms try to make you do for years to prove manager status. Of course now with companies being called out, there's the perception is towards mobility, but that tends toward tokenism in most orgs so that's a big "we'll see."

You exit when you are presented with a great offer. Doesnt matter the level if you are able to present yourself appropriately and sell yourself. I just got an offer for a super dope exit opportunity thats well above my current level in big 4. The base doubles my current base salary, and i get a nice annual bonus plus annual stock. Dont think you have to stay in just because its assumed better to exit at that level. Go for what you know. My firm (Big D) just is not for "most" black people period. A few of us here do well, but the majority do not. I wouldnt even recommend us coming here at all. And if so, ensure to have an exit strategy.

How long were you in Consulting and how many years of experience total? Or did you go straight from undergrad?

I’ve been told manager level at my firm is the best time to exit to industry.

like

Guidehouse (legacy Navigant perspective): best times are within 1-1.5 years of SC or AD promotion if you're in energy, defense, or healthcare, as your value hits a bit of a valley at the manager and full director levels unless you have a unique skillet or credential that a former client wants to scoop

Manager. I left at Senior but being manager makes a difference.

Newly promoted Senior Manager in Big 4, Manager at MBB. VP path in industry is easier to transition to, but if you stick around too long as an SM, the salary lift is less impactful. If you like consulting and are good at it, there’s never been more opportunity for upward mobility at my firm, in my opinion. In Consulting, at least. Don’t know about DAS.

I received an offer from a quant fund. My offer letter doesn’t explicitly state my role/position, it is nyc based, and that it’s full time. It also doesn’t provide benefits breakdown, just a blanket statement that I’m eligible. I’ve spoken to the recruiter about these items, but general response is that this is standard for the company. To me this is all very strange and I feel it should be defined more. Does this sound normal to others? Can’t tell if i should push on this more or leave it.
