I’m at a global biglaw firm in the V20. We get market pay and bonuses but not much else. I’m just surprised my firm hasn’t helped with providing corporate discounts for home office equipment or implemented a tech subsidy. It seems like these perks would be relatively inexpensive and have a significant impact on quality of life.
For example, I bought my own uplift desk, monitor setup, and comfortable chair so I could bill 2000++ hours from home. Am I being silly or should we all expect a bit more from the firms….
Wow that’s crazy that they didn’t. We got a $500 stipend for home office supplies. I also got an uplift desk but was reimbursed nearly half the price
True support in my view would be managing unreasonable clients. That would be great.

Yeah, they reduced our pay, then paid it back. Gave us special bonuses. My office held regular “we’re all on this together” meetings. But otherwise, no additional support and a lot of extra work, pressure, and responsibilities foisted on everyone.

One of you who liked this is from my firm. I see you. 🤛👀
We get 50 bucks a month. It was announced about 6 months into WFH but backdated to the beginning of mandatory WFH, so the first chunk was 300 or so. I thought it was too small at first, but over time it has ended up paying for my keyboard and monitors, but not the chair, yet.
If they took it back at the end last summer or something laughable like that, I'd agree. But they are still paying it, and I'm sure will continue paying for as long returning to the office is not required. I think it's adequate, I'm not looking to buy a 1500 dollar monitor for work.
I asked my office twice if we had corporate discounts with Herman & Miller or any office supply company that associates could take advantage of for WFH. Basically was told “of course we have a corporate discount but no one has ever asked to use it before; idk what to tell you.”
Firm has a way for us to order office stuff through their system to get their discount. But it’s something I had to find on my own, no one mentioned it.
Sometimes I feel like that but then I listen to the stories from the healthcare workers in my life and remember I got a mid year raise and multiple bonuses on top of making 3x what they make. When does biglaw ever actually support you?
Erm - what do you need?! I think we all get paid adequately in BigLaw that you can purchase what you need. I guess for some it’s never enough.
Like I said in another response, I would have appreciated corporate discounts on basic necessities like a chair, desk, or external monitor. I don’t disagree about your point on pay. However, it seems to me that it’s reasonable for the employer to provide/subsidize the basic items required to do the job
