Booked international family trip months ago when baby was four months, figured she’d be better by nine months. She’s not... am I crazy to think cancelling is the best course of action?

As context it’s a nine hour flight, husbands family are all expecting us. Baby was colicky and had reflux but we figured she’d be better by the time the trip came around. She probably is somewhat better but she won’t sleep if it’s not in her crib, she can’t stand sitting still in a stroller or carrier for more than 30 min at a time. I am super anxious and losing sleep over how bad I picture it all being. Is it over dramatic to just say we’d better cancel?

Ask for the bassinet on international flights (think there is a weight limit, like 20 lbs or 10 kg or stng) - this is like a crib and worked great for us many times. I would only cancel if you feel like you would not be able to enjoy the trip. But if you look forward to it, then go, take shifts on the flight, and get the help once you are there. I have had bad flights, but the more relaxed you can be (and able to accept the screaming but also bring positive energy to your baby and tell her about the exciting trip and family she will see, babies understand a lot and sense the energy), the more manageable it will be. And as said, on long flight, she would eventually get tired, and also the white noise may help. Enjoy!!

Oh man, I would be dreading it too. We've done a lot of shorter flights, and it is basically a wrestling match the entire flight. All my son wants to do is walk around and climb, and would never just fall asleep in my lap, and will not watch screens. I didn't know bassinets were an option, that sounds a little hopeful if it's overnight. Sorry, not helpful, just wanted to say I completely understand your hesitation! We've avoided long trips for this reason but if it was already booked it'd be a tougher call. If you're looking for a reason to bail, use this. If you really want to go, you should still give it a shot.

A 9 hour flight is really long...We are taking our soon to be 10 month old on a 5 hour flight and I am super nervous about the travel as well, but feel like my husband and I can at least tag team. The upside though...there will be more family members to help with the baby once you arrive!

Have you taken her on a flight before? I will do a short flight (1-2hrs) before taking my baby on an int flight (also have family expecting us to show up and they are 12hrs+ flight away from us)...want to do a dry run to see how it goes and to feel less stressed out.

Oh we have flown with her several times. She was good when she was only three months but the last few times have not been fun... wont sleep and gets upset. We had lots of crying and high pitched screams on our recent one hour flight.

International flights are sometimes better because there’s more room to walk around. That said that’s a tough age. But I do agree with D1 that at least you’ll have help once you arrive!

One hour barely allows her to settle in though so maybe a longer flight will be better?

Agree with SM1

I would just go for it. It’s (probably) not going to get easier for awhile because she’ll be mobile and busy and etc soon. On a 9 hour flight, I would figure she would eventually tire herself out and sleep at some point. We used to take shifts so one of us could sleep while the other managed the kids and then we would switch so we wouldn’t arrive totally exhausted (we still kind of do this but it’s easier now they are older). Some international flights have the bassinets in the bulkhead seats so not sure if that would help. Anyways, yes once you are there, you’ll have lots of help... we took our grouchy twins to Hawaii from the Midwest at 8 months and it was a surprisingly awesome trip and the flight was not nearly as bad as I had built up it would be in my mind....

Does she watch screens? Can you take an iPad and get her to calm down with that between napping, eating, and playing. Would not blame you at all for canceling but I would be worried about family abroad.

How soon did you tell your office you are pregnant? When is the best time?

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?

Planning to move to Seattle, WA early next year with my H1. I know it's a great opportunity, but at the same time my worry is to leave my mom alone here at home. (Dad is no more and I'm a only child) I know once if she gets her B2 visa, I can take her there with me for 5-6 and then she has to be here for 3-4 months here in India. Theoretical it's feasible, but how much it's practically possible ? I know many might experienced this. Please advise

Gift idea for my mom who has been helping so much with baby? She’s not into designer items. Was thinking furniture or a new car when prices calm down but those can’t be surprises. She’s very covid conscious, or would love to take her on a nice spa day or vacation. No price limit.

Due to the Colorado law, salary ranges must be included on job postings for Colorado positions. These ranges and levels were initially included on Build openings in Denver, but taken down once people noticed. Level 2: $95k - $120k Level 3: $110k - $140k Level 4: $124k - $165k (originally $130k - $165k then lowered) Level 5: $135k - $180k (originally $140k - $180k then lowered) Level 6: $160k - $205k Current local market openings in Denver are still available online for comparison.

What has your firm done to successfully bring staff back into the office? I work for a mid-size national firm and 98% of employees have been working remotely since last March. The partners want to bring people back. They initially tried a rotation schedule, but it did not go well. I believe the timing was wrong , it was still summer and kids were out of school and no camps were available. Also, it was probably a little too soon.
