I worked for the FAA for four years before consulting...hundreds of hotel stats and I got asked for my government ID twice.

Damn that's the worst. My Mngr did it recently and he said when they asked he jus played dumb and said he only had his client badge

Hotels in DC never ask. I had the Marriott at EWR reject my rate since I didn't have an ID.
Marriott usually asks for govt ID
Some security offices tell you "here's your badge, now don't show it outside this facility," in which case you come to an impasse pretty quickly.
You can get audited. Don't risk it for the biscuit.
Military reservist, always book the military rate...NEVER get asked for ID.
Thanks everyone for the responses. Of course I don't want to have to use that rate but the client here in San Antonio allows a maximum of $126 nightly hotel rate so I'm tryna make it work
