Boston Consulting Group What are your best performance management tips for new post-MBA Consultants, especially when joining your first project?

I’m an L3 SWE — up for promo this cycle with strong ratings.

I’m confident that the SWE career isn’t for me — not as an IC or as a manager. I want to be doing more high-level business/product strategy work and eventually manage people.

I’ve been doing a 20% project as a PM and have discussed ladder transfer with my current L6 PM Manager and a GPM. Need the promo first.

I have an offer to join BCG as an Associate and have been pre-admitted into the Wharton MBA 2+2 program.

What would you do?

Can we talk about how every time you’re looking for a new job or clients, it feels like it takes a calendar year to update every portfolio, website, online profile for consistency? For good measure, I even let my grandma know of the changes, but I’m sure people will still find my first school project out there somewhere…

Want to leave at least by the end of the year because I’ve only had 3 months real project experience despite being at the company for a year, but for the same reason feel as though I don’t have enough experience for another role. What should I do?

What should I expect from my manager? I've stuck it out for a year now and all I'm ever told is to not make mistakes. Manager stated explicitly that he does not want to review or test my work. Any attempts at discussion of why I made a mistake are dismissed by him as me making excuses. I never get any positive feedback. I somehow manager to make it a few months without making any errors but I missed a small detail in a large project and my 1on1 went terribly because of it. Is this common?

There's a senior asociate who everybody loves (he's like the class clown/cool guy/cracking jokes) like everyone adores him. He scheduled a meeting with me tomorrow to go over a project because he was my engagement manager but I have the WEIRDEST FEELING ABOUT HIM. I have like a bad feeling about him like i don't trust him and I don't know why...anyone else feel this way about someone a work? Is this intuition?

Y’all ever offered a kill fee as, like, a token of gratitude/enticement to stick with the project when a schedule was dragging on but you knew you needed to bid/treat to get the job in shape, but also knew you’d have to pause before awarding and potentially revise bids/treatments again? Tell me your stories! And, how much of a kill fee seems reasonable here?

I put in a lot of effort to show my client properties that fit their requirements, but they ended up working with a different agent just because they wandered across an open house. I'm so frustrated right now. Has anyone else experienced this?

Currently 1-1.5 years out of college, working at a T2 firm doing commercial due diligence work. Have gotten some offers but confused about which one to take:

1. OW PE team, joining in a position higher than at my current firm, basically skipping a year. OWs PE practice as far as I know doesn’t have huge market share
2. McKinseys PE practice but coming in a position lower than where I currently am
3. Stay at my current firm which is experiencing high growth

End goal is to move to the buy side

MBB - EM’s/TL’s/PL’s how much do you work in a week? I’m honestly over the Deloitte lie that Deloitte has a better WLB hence the better pay. As a Deloitte M I spend 45-60 hours on work + BS ad hoc admin asks by Partners and SM’s

If it’s all the same in terms of WLB I would take my chances with firms that pay better

Extra Context: I’m in the Strategy (Monitor Group in Toronto) M1 pay is 145 CAD

Which summer internship would be most attractive to MBB for FT recruiting - LEK, EYP or tech?
Currently a first year MBA at a target school. I did not land a summer internship with MBB (messed up during case interview) and want to try again in the fall. I’m optimistic about my chances with LEK and EYP for the summer but now also considering tech strategy roles. PreMBA experience was in boutique, niche consulting.

How do I start the quitting process? I started a case 1 week ago and I feel bad leaving given I’m staffed for about 8 more weeks which is tough for the team but I can’t do the job anymore. Also who do I talk to hr or my development partner? At one of the mbbs.
