Used clamshell-style ski racks on the roof of my sedan last year (pic below). Is it worth upgrading to a roof box? I don’t really have anywhere to store the box, so it would stay on for the winter (I usually take off the current ski racks when they’re not in use and just leave the crossbars on for the winter).

Whatever you do don't throw it away. If you post it for free on Craigslist it will be gone by the end of the day and SO many people will benefit from it vs. just going into a landfill.
Give them away and buy new stuff, unless you are attached to them. Unless the furniture is expensive, the cost to move is not cheap and not worth the hassle
FB marketplace!
I always chuck that stuff when I move. Nobody wants to buy used ikea.
As a poor graduate student. I did :)
Really depends if the time/cost is worth moving the cheaper furniture across the country (probably a big no). I would just sell or get rid of it and buy new

Sell them on Facebook market

I personally would keep it if in good condition, mine’s lasted two overseas trips from 2015.
But if you can afford better and want to upgrade then go for it. Or if it’s cheaper to sell and not pay for incremental moving costs.
The amount I paid movers to move my ikea furniture is probably one of my biggest regrets, so if that is a factor I say get rid of it and start fresh. I paid more to move my shit than it originally cost. Also moving company pulled a total bait and switch quoting me 2k and then telling me it was 5k on the day of my move when I had no other options so beware.
I would look at approximately how much it would take to redecorate etc. If it’s affordable and you want to change things up then I’d say go new.

Toss or offload on Craigslist
If replacement cost is less or comparable to shipping cost just give it away or sell it for like 20 bucks a pop. Would be worth even a couple hundred bucks to start fresh.

The costs of moving it across country would easily pay for more furniture on the other coast. Craigslist it and be done. Lots of people selling/buying used IKEA.
Pro
buy new furniture and give away/resell cheaply your old ones
Like others said, I would go ahead and list it on Craigslist or fb marketplace. If you really want to get rid of it just list them cheap, it would be more convenient and less wasteful to sell them.

Personally I would only move furniture cross country if it was valuable to me (eg I have a vintage solid wood credenza that I plan to keep even if I move). I don’t think ikea stuff is worth the cost of moving it that far.
Chuck it to good will and take a nice tax write off.

Some stuff will survive. Malm chests of drawers will not
My moving company actually included a provision in the contract they couldn’t be responsible for any damage to do-it-yourself assembled furniture. (Not the exact verbiage, but basically the intent was anything purchased as flat-pack). Based on prior experience trying to move that stuff cross country, it’s definitely not worth taking.
Forgot about something, if any of your ikea furniture is included in their recall, they will come pick it up from you and buy it back for close to the original sale price. Receipts not required. This isn’t just Malms, there’s a long list of dressers included.
