Bought a house for 785k. Bank appraised it at 1.35 mil this month. Considering getting a HELOC. Bank approved 300k @ 2%. I was considering taking out my equity and investing elsewhere. Any thoughts? Also where should I put the money?

2% is a crazy good rate. You could put it back into almost anything and get a better risk adjusted return. Who did you go through?

With that much cash I’d personally put it into a good rental property if you’re in the right market.

Which bank approved your heloc?

Makes sense to leverage if you're a business. If it's my family home I don't take the risk.

like

How did you get it for so cheap? Or how did the bank appraise it so high? That's quite a large difference.

I’ve always avoided annuities but think this one from NY Life is interesting. It’s called a Variable Investment Fund and you can add an Investment Preservation Rider for a fee. The IPR guarantees your investment return will at least be the cash you put in.

Typical portfolio returns about 7.5% after all fees. The commission fee is 2%.

So you are attenuating some upside and paying a pretty hefty fee, but you are insuring agains the downside.

Thoughts?
