Can you get a refundable flight with the vouchers or a flight which allows changes? They probably locked that option down

This was never supposed to be possible. If it worked for you in the past, it was a mistake.
If it’s a straight travel voucher, sell it on eBay or craigslist and get back most of the value. I do this often.
Yes, flight attendants aren’t that muscular

That’s a rough spot as they don’t have to extend it. Worst case if they won’t work with you is the tickets are transferable to others so you can sell the voucher for hopefully not a huge discount
Yes. Vouchers are transferrable. You can buy a cheap flight maybe NYC to DC one way then use the rest of the value via voucher (should be automatically issued after you buy the ticket for yourself)
Aren’t they supposed to refund you the vouchers if you don’t use them within the year? (Like pretty much every airline has done because of covid)
Exactly.

I won against American Airlines for a non-refundable flight round trip to Italy in March and a flight from LA. They completely refunded my Italian flight, which I was shocked, but thrilled. For LA, they’d only give me a voucher. I learned my lesson about travel insurance though. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy and spring for “cancel for any reason.”

We’re having this issue with Delta now. We still haven’t received our money back on a flight they canceled in April. It was to Australia and for my husband and I. We’re out thousands right now and they still haven’t refunded our money yet.

Thank you! Will absolutely give this a try
By US law if they cancel your flight you are entitled to a cash refund. They..the airline..will do everything they can to delay giving it to you

Yes - do you fly often for work? That helps as you can always just say you'll take your business travel elsewhere.
Pro
Yes. I bought tickets on Aer Lingus. Flight was cancelled in March and I still haven’t received the voucher I was forced to take. I’m worried they’re going to collapse and I’ll be out $2000.
