Received an offer with 150k base and 25k bonus. Had a negotiation call where I requested a 10-15% base bump for merit/BATNA reasons. They were receptive.

Follow up call they provided a 13% base increase + an unexpected 41% bonus decrease.

Is this common practice? Any thoughts on countering this? Any specific language you would use?

I realize I never accounted for this scenario and that's on me! Hoping for advice on how best to move forward.

As a new manager (~1/2 year in), I still find myself deferring a lot to partners. For example, “here’s what I think but let’s confirm with (partner/md)”. Not all the time, but often enough to notice. @Is this something I should be doing? Does it matter?
