6 weeks and you are talking about weight? Need to give yourself grace and focus on your baby.
Thanks M2 very helpful!
You’re also likely knackered and covered in bodily fluids 75% of the time. Give yourself a break. The weight will come with time. I was back at pre pregnancy weight at 7 months and exclusively breastfed. It can be done, but you need to let yourself recover. When you are ready to exercise, I really recommend starting with mat based Pilates at home. There are a tonne of videos on YouTube you can follow, and they will help you really focus on building up your core muscles.
Thanks! This is helpful. I was doing reformer Pilates during pregnancy so will start back up once I get cleared from the doc at my 6 week appointment
The longer you breastfeed, the more the weight will come off over time. I breastfeed or exclusively pumped for a year, and by the one year mark I was thinner than I had been pre pregnancy. Just be sure to have a solid workout routine and eat healthy, including healthy fats. Don’t deprive your body. Also, getting sleep will help too, so sleep train when the baby is 4 or 5 months and the doc gives you the go ahead. It’s life changing.
Go for a long stroller walk everyday. You’ll get there if you keep breastfeeding and eating good fats and protein. You can’t really diet though you need the calories.
Thanks! This is helpful
Okay some of these comments are too harsh ... I get what you are saying! I didn’t feel like myself again or that I had energy until I dropped some lbs ... around 3 months I went back to the gym everyday and was still breastfeeding (still am now exclusively almost a year) it had no impact on my supply! So don’t worry but do what feels right for you and your body.
Yeah I agree with you A1. Some of the comments are harsh. I don’t think my attitude is wrong. I’ve been through this before. I’m not a FTM so I know from last time I didn’t feel good. Also I was overweight to be begin with so having an extra 10 lbs on top of that puts me at obese. Once I go to the doc for my 6 week check up and get cleared for exercise I’ll go to the gym but I just want to make sure it doesn’t affect my supply
As your baby grows they’ll also be taking more calories out of you, if you continue breastfeeding. I was my thinnest since college in months 3-6. I think the weight going down slowly would be helpful for meeting those future needs.
So I’m 7 months pp and still up 4-8 pounds depending on the day. But, I can still fit into all my normal clothes comfortably. What I’ve experienced is that cutting calories or attempting to eat less messes with my supply. When I’m hungry, I eat until full. I have added workouts (Tone It Up app) back in and that helped me get back to the 4 pound stage (then the holidays hit and whoops). Personal opinion is focus on eating healthy calories (Dutch the sweets, junk, etc) and add in ~ 30 min a day of exercise that you like. I also try not to keep any junk in the house because when my breastfeeding hunger strikes, I will chow through a whole bag of chips without thinking about it. Without the chops handy, I’ll grab an apple/PB or carrots and hummus
You need about 500 extra calories per day for breastfeeding. So you can count calories as long as you’re still getting the extra 500, and shouldn’t impact your supply. Take it slowly and listen to your body! If you’re constantly hungry, eat more but focus on nutritious snacks and meals.
