Confused... how do you have money to rent a place if you are getting evicted for not paying? Shouldn’t finding a job be the priority here?

like

But you can’t rent anything if you’re unemployed. Like no one is going to give you a lease. If you’re literally putting your living expenses on a credit card or whatever, I guess one of those $150/week hotels is probably your best option. But if you still have money in the bank, I’d suggest paying your rent with it (or at least part of it) and double down on the job search. Pick up some gig work on the side or whatever. Getting evicted and paying more to live somewhere else seems like a bad plan.

Depending on where you are you can find rooms for rent in a person's home. Also if your near a college you can find many deals on houses and apartments normally student occupied but now empty due to covid and virtual learning

This is a really good idea!

Find a sublet - someone trying to get out of their lease will be best deal.

I'm pretty sure there's a moratorium on evictions right now due to covid

Airbnb long term is going to be more expensive than the rent. That’s how they make profit. Also, what would you do with all your stuff? Get storage? I don’t know your life so take all this with a grain of salt, but if you’re being evicted for not having money, Airbnb is a bad plan that will cost more in the long run. Why would you not just get a much cheaper apartment, or move into a place with roommates?

Seconded on the Airbnb choice. About to be booted from my parents place as they're downsizing. Was wondering the midterm viability of an Airbnb as I test the waters in a new city.

Second on the student housing. Try Boston.

If you have a car, consider a side gig like uber to help you get back on your feet. Re: cheap rent options, rent a room. There’s Facebook groups for that in most cities. Search “[INSERT CITY] housing” on FB

I'd recommend looking into renting a room in a house and selling your things and/or storing them. If you have family/friends, maybe store your things and ask if you can crash for 2-5 days at a time with several different ones so you don't overstay your welcome.

Put your things in storage or with family; rent a room with graduate students somewhere like Cambridge. I have done this in Boston while searching out of college. Look at universities where you live.

Depending on where you are, can’t be evicted till after December. Look into subleasing.

Airbnb can be more expensive cause of all the fees they tack on but it’s also more flexible, like if you want to do a three month rental, and usually furnished. It depends on what your needs are but I wouldn’t tule Airbnb out (I did it when I had to move for an 8 month co-op and it worked out well for me).

Op one thing to note is that if you have an option to stay with family, do that. We are in a pandemic, so safety is an issue as well.

Consider living in a van or Prius - check out people who do this on YouTube

I did longterm Airbnb when I moved back to NYC years ago. I was able to find a super discounted room in a nice apartment by agreeing to stay 3 months. Look there but also check Craigslist and Facebook groups for people looking to rent rooms. Also, extended stay hotels are a great choice too if you can swing it where you are.

Not sure where you live but in my city we are still under the state of emergency due to covid and landlords are not allowed to evict tenants. My landlord has even sent communications about this.

How are people feeling about the layoffs?

Tell me something good - how did you realize that your SO was the one for you? I went through a rough time these past few weeks after being laid off, immigration issues, etc. and I think my boyfriend might be the one for me. He’s always been there for me and I can be myself around him (with the breakdowns and all).

I am having the hardest time pivoting back into full time recruiting. I have 13 years of experience, but was laid off in May 2020 due to pandemic “cutbacks”. Now that I’m trying to get a full time recruiting position, I’m getting nothing but rejections. I’ve been a Snr Recruiter, Snr Recruiting Manager and Principal. Not sure what I’m doing wrong?

My SO was laid off and has recently delved into philosophy and intense introspection. I'm all for taking time for yourself but I feel like they're losing touch with reality. New job is secured. Meanwhile I'm trying to get them to start with wedding planning, move planning, etc while still not working because I'm on a biological clock here, pal, but "time is a construct" or whatever. Someone help me gain perspective before I lose my shit. Things need to be done/planned for and I can't do it all.

I work in an internal ops role in consulting, I started a a week ago while also being accepted into a top exec mba program starting in the fall. I plan on doing it and funding it myself but will need to have 2 weeks this year and 2 weeks early 2023 for travel and classroom weeks. External offer coming. 25-30% increase in base, plus a targeted 25% bonus. Certain my employer will not be able to match (would require two levels of promo and there are no bonuses). When I let my manager know, do I even leave it open for a counter? Or say “thank you, I am moving on.” I’ve compared job vs job and it will be a lot more work for much more money - and this is what I want. I am just curious for input on how to do this gracefully and if not even allowing a counter is distasteful.

So I consider most consultants smart and fairly normal. So my fear ever since I have realised that I'm Asexual , that I will never find a person who's not a pink hair coloured gen z kid , that understands and accepts this..I'm a cuddler , love kissing and romantic but as a 30F ..it's really difficult to find normal guys who are asexual in our industry
