Burned out, having anxiety attacks due to this job. Not sure what’s next, but this isn’t working. Do I stick it out until promotion, or leave now? 18mo at Big4, pre-MBA

Switch jobs. You’re young and 18 mo at a consulting firm is not abnormal. It’s not worth your happiness especially anxiety attacks. You could also try seeing a doctor and going on a SSRI. Might help. good luck.

I went 28 years with no hints of anxiety...until I became a consultant. Can you take a leave of absence or extended vacation so you can figure out the root cause of your anxiety? Maybe with a therapist? I worked with a therapist to try to make this job work for me but in the end, it just wasn’t going to happen without taking meds and I didn’t want to do that for a job. Even though I couldn’t make it work, I felt a lot better about my decision to leave because I knew for sure that it was the right thing to do.

Update: I’m outta here. Not sure what’s next, but I’m excited for some relief! Thank you all for the kind words

Before you quit I’d first reflect on why you’re miserable. Is it the culture? Bad client?

like

100% feel you. Grappling with that right now deciding whether or not to take industry offer. Anxiety attacks every time the client emails even though project “ended” 2 months ago...

So so proud of u OP!!!! I’m right behind u!

Not worth sticking it out if you’re miserable.

I am in the exact same situation; having severe anxiety attacks ; I disagree with those that say to figure out why u are anxious first - whilst well meaning - the truth is it’s difficult to figure whilst in a toxic environment. If your performance is good and people respect you then it may be worth looking into how to push through but if your performance is suffering is strained due to stress and anxiety then I’d say get out and move on - remember, it doesn’t get easier when u become a manager and if u are struggling now imagine what that will be like as a manager...

If youll be promoted within 6 months, stick around for that. Honestly my first 18 months were pretty rough, but things started to get a lot better once I was well known in the firm, had a strong reputation, and wasnt bottom of the totem pole anymore. Your exit opportunities will be a bit better after promo, also (though much better at M). As above, do what you need to do to get your mental health in order. That includes seeing a physician and having a discussion about depression/anxiety meds to see if they might be right for you.

Also determine if the job is the true root cause of your unhappiness. You may find that something else is causing you to be unhappy and quitting your job isn’t the answer to all your problems.

I can't say that I've experienced what you're exper

Experiencing but I cant imagine living like that. I would try to root cause the issue though and solve it that way. I sincerely hope you get to a better place emotionally. Good luck!!

I’d work corp

Slow moving but average employee works 40 hours if u do 60 u will be a rockstar

My husband and I are looking to buy our first home. We live in HCOL, so the loan is most likely going to be jumbo. In your experience, is it better to go with bigger banks or smaller lenders for jumbo loans? We have enough cash to put 20% down, but would prefer not to do that and go with 15% down instead - do jumbos typically go with 15% down and no PMI? We also have an option to borrow from 401k or to sell 1/3 of our investments to raise cash if PMI is too high. What would you do? Any advice?

Is the main advantage of applying to mba early simply to literally start making more sooner? Is it easier when you’re younger? What am I missing?

For data science roles, senior (L6) at AWS or post MBA level (specialist track, so same pay as generalists) at MBB? Comp is 20% higher at AWS just to start. But maybe looks like MBB has better upside - solid path to promotion to manager level with solid comp increase. But worse WLB and it's unclear to me whether MBB data scientist on the resume is up to par with big tech data scientist on the resume. Coming from big 4 so I am considering brand so I can do better with future resume screens.
