As a cyber security consultant, I don’t think that. I think people just don’t listen until the last minute and I swear everyone starts to show their true colors. As a consultant, our job is to consult you on your issues and problems and advise best practices according to the law & certain standards, now if your business has been practicing outside of those standards for a long time that’s a different story but I get why a lot of people don’t like analyst because we just analyze the problem. We’re not a part of it we’re like project managers for everyone’s issues.

I believe that to the extent the hiring entity does their job consultants can be super valuable. If you don’t know how to get the best out of
Consultants you will be unlikely to get value. Plus, there is a huge divide between consultants who you
1. hire for a specific piece of advice (a valuation, a cyber security fix or assessment)
2. Conduct a process or manage a project
3. Stand in temporarily for a key role (mgr for hire)

And other variants. Point is, each of these have a best way of contracting for it, reasonable expectations of outcomes, and all require a lot of expertise from the hiring company. Without this good Consultants will still try to help
The company get a good clear expectation of what is possible/likely and should clearly outline it in the sow. That would be playing the long game. They don’t all do that.
