Buying my first Hermes tie- which color should I get (I wear blue/white shirts, navy/charcoal pants on average). Please no 'Hermes is overrated' crap- I see y'all wearing it in the Sky Lobby...

You can buy a tie on the street that looks good as long as you carry yourself as a professional. Go spend your money if it makes you do your job better. Enough about the "appearance does matter". No one shows up looking like a hobo. Worry about your contribution, not your appearance.

I am 55. I am one of the people about whose opinion you don't care. When I see someone wearing an Hermès tie, all I can think is "how pretentious". That goes for my age group and yours. Now Allen Edmonds shoes, they are something else.

Honestly, I couldn't care less what my 60 yo MD thinks. I'll wear what I want.

I give a shit. I really like the brand.

For those that care: I went with a blue one. And I really like it. But, ah, if I ever lateral to MS, someone remind me to burn it. Might make some folks over there insecure.

Red is always a solid choice

My performance is one of the reasons I'm getting the tie- I did well on bonus and feel like I deserve to finally get something nice because I've worked my ass off. You can disagree with me- that's your valid opinion. But just know that I'm disregarding it because it isn't answering my question.

like

Dear god no red. Light blue. Understated and classy for your first one.

like

Please disregard and Go for it, I am just one opinion. Be proud of your work because that's actually what matters. Brand names don't make you smarter. Just saying

like

Whatever you do just don't get one with a flashy H as the pattern. That's lame

like

Do folks in MS not enjoy reading a complete sentence or have a difficult time concentrating? None of them seems to have read the question. OP wants an hermes tie, MS. Go buy your tie set from century 21. No one will judge; return the favor when other folks want better ties

I hope your MD loses respect

Citi3 #preach but how about the fact that it shouldn't be about the clothes but about your performance?

Red and blue shades are so common. Hermes has some of the best non-red and non-blue shades. My favorite is a yellow shade with a diamond weave. It's subtle, unique, and elegant.

@MS1 cool it. Appearance does matter. Doesn't mean you need to look like a douche... but it does matter and people DO care about how you present yourself.

Style is forever. Pick a nice tie you'll be comfortable wearing for a lifetime. Only way to get value out of an expensive cravate.

Women who have had kids while working - what was the situation when you were breast feeding? My office uses a supply closet as the “lactation room” and sometimes women would use an empty office at the end of the hall...feels a little cruel to me but maybe that’s how it is everywhere? FYI I don’t have kids yet but thinking about it and the lactation room situation just bothers me for some reason...

Love the intensity of the ending, and the machinations of trying to kill off challenges to the throne.

I (36F) am married to another woman (34F) and we have a baby (5moF). We split all childcare, cleaning, meal prep, errands etc fairly evenly and it works well. Maybe she cooks more than I do bc she likes it, and I clean more bc I need to have a clean house. My friend (35F) recently took a business trip and literally put a binder together with instructions for her husband re: daycare drop off and pick up, what to feed the kids, when to take out the trash and so on. I’m graduating early in December but won’t start work until August (7-8 months between). I’m a CS student interested in ML/AI, finance, crypto, real estate, athletics/fitness. The job will be software engineering at a financial firm. I’m trying to figure the best use of my time to capitalize on this unique opportunity: my list includes doing independent research or building an AI project, but also things like hiking in Patagonia or learning guitar. Curious to hear other perspectives on this.
