Yes, it’s the only way, but it’s not worth it. Not sure how much your ticket currently is, but the incremental cost will be in the thousands I’m assuming. Diamond vs. platinum isn’t that much
The best way is to fly KLM or Virgin, since you earn MQDs on distance traveled if you book via a partner airline. Having said that, one way to London will only get you ~$1500 MQDs so not helpful.
Getting diamond doesn’t look realistic, sorry bud.
Credit cards may get you there. Check the points guy blog.
Lol you want him to spend $25k within 3 weeks?
Upgrade to business or first on the first leg
What is the price of your flight to EUR?
There’s no hack - it’ll cost the extra $4.6k (assuming leg to Europe is only half that fare) to get it.
Might be worth it if you intend to use all global upgrades on high priced upgrades. Most likely isn’t. Platinum isn’t bad and you’ll roll over 50k miles plus for status next year.
Rising Star
I think you are screwed unless you cough up the $5200
what does diamond status come with. im not loyal to any airlines and just fly whichever is cheapest where ever i wanna go so just wondering what ya all get with these stuff
Sorry, but only way you’re getting over the line to Diamond is by spending $5,200. If you were short MQMs you could have used credit cards like the Delta Reserve to get there, but the MQD requirement is in place precisely to weed folks like you out, alas.
However, as a Diamond myself not sure if it’s worth it these days frankly. I long ago stopped relying on complimentary upgrades and just book paid first or Delta One on all flights, and Delta gutted the other big Diamond benefit (GUCs) last year.
Sticking as Platinum means you’ll get an awesome MQM rollover next year as well.
P1, you are so tone deaf. “Not sure if it is worth it”, “I just book paid Delta One”. That is great for you. Other people may need the status to help them get upgraded.
Maybe reread what they wrote? They’re paying for D1 as a Diamond because upgrades are hard to get even with that status on big flights. I’ve been 19th on an upgrade list as Diamond on cross-country flights. OP should ask themselves if they really want to spend $4.6k for a slightly better shot at upgrades or just spend that $4.6k on first class upgrades directly if it matters that much.
And they’re mentioning that global upgrades have been diminished (which I didn’t know personally) which everyone acknowledges as the best reward DMs get.
They’re right that Platinum really isn’t that bad. You get comfort plus upgrades reliably and the occasional first class upgrade.
