Met someone who is making 100k a month with options with a day job. Is this sustainable? I am a index guy myself. Is learning options worth that much? Any success stories in this group

He’s 1 in a million and probably lying. Stick to index.

That's what I said when I had an epic run with SPY options alone, making nearly a 300% profit from last September to February this year. Doubled down on tech options during the crash in the last week of Feb and nearly got wiped out. Just got back to where I began last week. It really just depends on the timeframe and is ridiculously hard to keep it going

If you can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen and invest in index funds

100k means nothing without context. What is ROC? If the person is putting up $1m per month, 10% a month is good and somewhat attainable. Also depends on the strategies. Some people only do credit spreads and can make essentially passive income from placing short option trades.

Agreed with you

I'm up 70% YTD and had a day job. So yes, it's doable. What you missed is leverage. If SPY gets you 10% a year, with leverage, I can turn that into 30-40% easily. The issue is volatility. Its trivial to make money during bull market. Bear is a different matter.

Leveraged ETFs usually go under when markets go down. Take a look at MORL for example.

It depends on the capital invested and the strategy. If they are selling options and sit on a $5M portfolio, that’s very plausible. If they are running naked calls and puts, it’s probably not sustainable. You get those right until you don’t.

Maybe

With a daily Job, 100k in option trading is not sustainable. But you can make few K as side hustle using options and being disciplined.

Need context... 100k per month with options IS possible... if you started with a large capital first. Heck... you could probably put in several millions into a stock say... AMD... then write Call options per 100 shares and collect the premiums. Or.... you can have a lot of capital on hand, and write PUTS and collect the premium.... and if you're unlucky, forced to buy the shares. But actually buying options.... (would not recommended going bearish...ever) is where the risk happens.

If I had 1m - I’d toss it into QYLD and make myself 12% / year and do better than your options trading boy with passive dividends.

Fair point. I stand corrected! Time to start selling covered calls at strike price! Additionally, dude is likely lying making that much each month. Unless he has more than $1m.

I’m making about 5k per month on 100k investment by just selling covered calls. I’m sure more advanced options traders can do better if they pick the right stocks

Gotcha, right now I’m trading a very volatile stock (MindMed, which is trading around $3-4 per share). I’ve been getting lucky with timing the covered calls - sometimes $5 calls are selling for $40 or so and I have about 330 to sell.

Yes, it is sustainable. I have seen it. If you are in the right circles and surrounded yourself by the right people who know what is happening you are fine. Yes, learning options is worth it but build a financial savvy network. People who have information and know what they are doing. Masses are in index because that is the precautionary way of investing everyone is told. I have seen people who have become religiously index people because of this. Some of the best investors do not even touch index funds.

How ma NJ y months has been doing this? What trades has he pit before? Are they any or a few. With a few you can make it if you have the right Intel. Ask him to show you all the trades and she with us here.

I got an offer today from a firm that’s fairly new and has about 13 attorneys. Only two of the attorneys are women, and they’re both quite a bit older. I don’t think the firm has a maternity leave policy. How do I find out? I’m a 26-year-old and want to start a family soon? But I don’t want them to know that quite yet.… Advice?

Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)

I turned on “open to work” (but only casually browsing) on LinkedIn last night because I’ve had a god-awful week and am legitimately considering my options. Except I was immediately bombarded by calls and emails from recruiters. My office phone was blowing up this morning in the middle of trying to get a filing out the door… I’ve already turned it back off. Lesson learned LMAO

Has anyone ever used the SkyBaby for flying? What are your thoughts? Me and the 6mo old will be flying solo cross country. It’s not our first rodeo, but the last one (when he was 4mo) was pretty miserable. I had the boba wrap on the way there and it was just way too hot and confining. The baby bjorn on the way back was better but he still got pretty squirmy so I ended up taking him out and holding him for 4 hours. And tickets are way too expensive for his own seat.

Does anyone have trouble getting their SO to be more cleanly? My SO and I moved in together 1 ur ago and I feel like I’m constantly reminding him to do certain chores or pick up I after himself. I’m nice about it but it’s exhausting and a lot of the time he gets defensive or annoyed when I ask. I don’t have high expectations, just doing dishes as they pile and not pleasing clothes on the floor, putting dishes in the sick when you’re done etc. Anyone else had this problem?

Anyone here who has been or going thru arranged marriage prospects, at what point in the course of talking/ meeting do you bring up exclusivity? I am talking to this guy for 3 months given COVID we are not able to meet, but he also seems really into me, we talk everyday and go to sleep talking to each other, but recently I think he is talking to others too and my parents also want me to talk to more guys if I can’t finalize on him. How do I handle this gracefully?

I’m sure this has been asked before—but how do you get through work when going through a breakup with a long term SO? I have a new male boss & cant really tell him what’s going on. I’ve been taking PTO scattered. I live alone and NYC Covid winter alone is already feeling so overwhelmingly sad and lonely on top of everything else.
