I don’t work in big law, but some of my classmates, who are going into big law, are bragging about the low number of billable hours they are required to hit. I’m hearing 1,600-1,800 billable hours. Is this actually true? Are some firms paying Cravath and only requiring 1,600 for the year? I know it depends on the firm, but can anyone actually confirm this is their experience? If so, then I’m a little jealous 🙃
yes, ive seen it happen
If you’re respectful and reasonable about it, there’s not a big risk as it’s pretty standard. If they won’t they’ll just say no
My reasoning is that it’s a fully in-office position and I live an hour away. With the way the economy is and gas prices, it’s a lot of money going to gas and wear and tear on my car. Not to mention where my salary would be after benefits and retirement stuff is taken out. It’s a $50k offer and I’m contemplating asking for an extra $5k. I’m nervous though since this is already a huge improvement from where I am now and I don’t want to lose it.
Nah 5k is fine. They’ll probably say no. Not sure what you do but 50k is very low for most roles (even entry or trades) so I would definitely keep an eye out for other roles. Just my 2 cents (even tho you didn’t ask about it lol)
Yup happened to me bc i asked for the max from the budgeted amount for the role 😂 good times
