Can a manager get fired because they documented that their employee failed to complete work on time yet employee has documentation that (1) they did complete the work on time and (2) asked multiple times for the manager to complete their review?

What is going to happen with the documentation? Is it being sent to HR?

I love when you have receipts ready to fire off!

This whole company sounds like a red flag…and I work for Amazon!!!

Doubtful they’ll get fired, but possible they’ll get a talking to, and certain they’ll feel like an ass. Is the manager disorganised and failed to see the submitted work and follow ups? or do they have an agenda to make like difficult for the employee?

I had that happen to me at the end of project review, guy basically said we could have done things much faster yet he took weeks to review stuff. Score was good though so I didn't fight it, but the comment was left in the review. From that day on I told everyone to cya with that person.

most of the times if they want to fire him and need a reason. This would be it. If the manager is in good terms this is a slap on the wrist quickly forgotten. This is office politics and not a legal system. If he is after you for some reason and you don’t know anyone above him then it’s time to leave or move to another group

This would not be grounds for termination unless it was a well established and documented pattern and/or connected with illegal behavior (again, pattern that is document) such as harassment. The burden of proof is on an employer, and a one time minor incident like this would not be grounds. Also, it’s frankly an issue that the employee is “looking” for a reason to have their superior fired. If there are issues with the manager the employee should be proactively addressing the issues or requesting a transfer, not looking for petty reasons to have them fired.

My boss is trying cover up the fact that they are not doing their job. Is putting the blame on me faulting me for every minor mistake so that the focus is on me and not my boss. I confided in a couple of peers to let them know what is going on and they couldn’t believe it. They also agree that my boss is disconnected from the work we are doing. It's so stressful what I’ve been going through with my boss. I spoke to HR and they referred me to Employee Relations. I explained to HR I am doing my best to resolve the issues between me and boss. Boss still wanted to write me up despite showing documented progress and effort and that was when I reached to HR about it. I believe HR spoke with boss. Boss did not give me a write up but said I have approval to apply for other roles. There aren’t many openings but this is crazy. I am not sure if boss’s boss is covering them so I need to go higher up. I feel I have nothing to lose at this point.

If the company WANTED to fire him for this, then of course they can. The manager and you are at will employees with no “right” to employment. If you complain, this would go to HR and the company has discretion in how they want to handle it. Simply having what is proof in your mind that the manager is wrong does not mean the company will or needs to agree. I would try and repair the relationship with your manager or seek to switch teams/organizations.

Seems like some sort of misunderstanding/miscommunication. Loop your SM or Partner in.

No one is gonna get fired for this.

Simple answer : yes.

In practically every state you would be able to fire someone for that. There's a good chance they could still collect unemployment

like

Sounds like your manager is retaliating against you!

like

Seems like they could say it was an oversight. I doubt anyone gets fired. You should just call the discrepancy to their attention in a professional manner. If it impacts your review, let your mentor or advocate or hr know- Whoever is relevant. But don’t be all blame-y, just say, this review or whatever is unique bc you did your thing (insert proof) and they seemed to lose track of that and it resulted in x happening.

Fired tho? Sorry, not gonna happen.

like

At will employment so either party absolutely could get fired. Based on the limited info available, seems like the manager is more likely to be fired on the basis of being unethical and lacking integrity. That said, not likely to happen unless it's determined to be malicious or retaliatory. Would make sure higher ups know the circumstances if it's as portrayed; however, if work product quality was poor or employee didn't address feedback timely- could backfire. Also, the manager may just lie and say they gave you verbal feedback...

like

Depending on the power of this person either you or they could end up out because clearly working together is not going to work going forward

like

Could they? Absolutely, especially if you have the receipts.

Will they? Depends on where you work and what that manager's relationship is to anyone with enough pull to fire them.

Little story I wanted to share. I’ve never been close to one of my siblings and haven’t put effort to change that. Eg., never initiated conversations. In the past few years I’ve felt convicted to try to be more loving. I didn’t feel I liked her, but recognized my responsibility by being cold, even though it was subconscious and not quite intentional. So anyway, I’ve been trying, with much prayer. Recently she reached out asking me for something major and I started to feel bitter. *Continued
