Can a solution engineer at SF ever get into salesforce consulting at Deloitte or Accenture? If so what level could they come in at?

Stay at salesforce. Overall package significantly better compared to Accenture and Deloitte regardless of delivery or sales

80% of the time SF is going to pay much more

Agree with P1 it’s rare. I made the jump from services to Big4 and it worked out but I wasn’t pre-sales. Problem with pre-sales is that over time you just become really good at demos but don’t learn much about delivery. Delivery helps with those bigger long-term projects that make a partner case. If you don’t want to make Partner/MD one day then you’re probably better off staying at SF until they become Oracle 2.0.

Coming from the consulting side, everyone I know went consulting > SE or PA/BA, not the other way around. Huge outflow from Deloitte in particular. That said, YMMV, everyone has different priorities.

Bro, I’ve worked at Accenture and Deloitte both—everyone was trying to go TO salesforce

I can summarize as someone who’s leaving D -> SF services

- Deloitte pay is awful lately compared to other tech companies
- Deloitte doesn’t value tech onshore resources as much as it values functional
- most of the benefits working here came from traveling (generous expense policy, points, etc)
- there’s not a lot of onshore tech talent so you don’t really learn a lot (this is coming from someone who wants to develop their tech skills, I’m also in a more niche cloud than crm)
- compensation/promo/bonus cycle is god awful. It takes 6 months to realize any salary or bonus change
- partners sell projects that they frankly don’t have the onshore knowledge to support

The list goes on

In my experience, it’s rare. Without hands-on implementation experience, you won’t be offered a role senior enough to compare to your comp as a SE at Salesforce. On the other hand, I’ve seen consultants who burn out of consulting go to Salesforce for senior SE, TA, or CSG roles.

Why? I mean it’s good here but the partners make this stuff work. Usually all our sales people who can’t take the heat went to a partner. Less monthly cadence and insane forecasting / call blitzes I imagine.

like

It’s an interesting perspective. Polar opposite for sales. Sales people get burned out at SF and go to a partner to focus on customer success vs. constant license slinging.

Why? Isn’t your all in comp higher literally at every level compared to consulting except maybe partner/ MD? Even then a principal engineer maybe able to chime in and comment on all in comp

Can confirm. I broke 200k as a senior

Comp is less at partners usually because the stress is less (sales) not delivery.

SE here - that’s ridiculous, but it happens. I constantly have to push back on sales and tell them to stop setting pricing expectations for partners because that’s their job, not ours. If a customer is unrealistic about timing and budget for implementation, then maybe we shouldn’t be selling them licenses. Isn’t one of our core values customer success?

like

Depends on a lot of factors but a solutions engineer would probably come in at a Level 9 Consultant or maybe even a Level 8 Associate Manager at Accenture.

What is the comp for a level 9 consultant in a tier 1 or 2 city

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!
