Can anyone give me faith that it’s feasible to have baby and continue to travel for work? My husband works a 8-5 M-F job. Would we obviously have to have nanny and a night nurse?

It’s possible but pretty shitty tbh. I’m doing it right now on a partial travel project - so travel every 2-4 weeks. We have daycare until 6 and no nearby family. We have a sitter who also cleans our house - she comes once a week to clean, chores and pick up baby from daycare (she comes regardless of whether I am traveling). Husband also travels occasionally, so I get to see the flip side. It’s ok. But if baby gets sick it rapidly becomes a cascade of problems for whoever is home (getting a dr appt, arranging back up care, dealing with a sick baby who probably isn’t sleeping as well)

like

Totally doable. You’ll be out on mat leave for what... four months? You can and should fully sleep train by then so night nurse is not necessary for work (but perhaps highly necessary for your own sanity in early months). Full time nanny or daycare definitely required. But if hubby is 8-5 no travel, you’re fine as long as he’s a happy committed dad

like

I mean, my babe slept through the night at 9 weeks so I know that it’s possible. But, little much to tell someone that they should sleep train at 4 months.

Possible.
I am doing it with hubby and home with the kids. It takes teamwork and scheduling. He does not have overnight support but grandparents are actively involved from daycare pickup until he gets home, which 1 day a week includes bedtime.

For example I was doing coast to coast when first was 6months old.

Now gone 2-3nights with 2&4 year olds.

Thanks all! Awesome to know there are such badass women out there. Gives me hope that I can have it all.

like

Totally possible! I was back on the road full time right after leave with both of mine. And I doubt your husband will need help at night.

like

IF you do daycare, get a backup childcare option early on. When they’re sick, which is often, daycare won’t help

like

Possible but expensive, unless you have family help. We have daycare during the day but an evening helper 2x a week to do pickup and bedtime, dishes, etc. It works, but you should plan to pay for more than your typical 9-5 childcare unless you want your husband to never get a free moment during the weeks

I’ve actually found it logistically easier than I thought and emotionally harder than I thought (when I was pregnant i thought it would be the reverse!). Now that my kids are a bit older, the logistics are ok, but I miss them! I only will do 2 nights of travel per week - anything more than that is too much!

Also you should be fine without a night nurse by the time you’re back from mat leave but again depends on baby.

I recently joined EY 5 months back very far from my home Town. Stupid question, but here goes: what's the definition of a "single mom"? Does it only include women whose child/ren don't have a father in their lives (e.g., mom got pregnant, but never told the guy) - or does it also include women who got divorced, but their ex-husbands still co-parent?

So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?
