Can anyone let me know how they advanced their career in HR from a coordinator to manager or generalist? I would love feedback on how to grow my career because I feel like I’m stuck

Nope. We don’t have that at all. We barely have any sort of functioning HR system currently in play. I’m actually trying to talk with my manager about creating career paths for people and performance reviews because I feel like if I want it then other people at the company probably do too

I was an onboarding coordinator and got promoted to a recruiter with same co. Does your co have growth opportunities/career ladder? Seems like HRG could be your next step.

I got my MS in HRM and PHR and was able to leave the company I was stuck at. I became a HR Specialist and tried hard to make myself visible to leadership and this helped me hit Generalist and then Manager. Forming relationships with management was essential to my upward movement.

It helped me a lot honestly! I learned a lot and definitely had more bites when I was looking for a job than when I didn’t have it.

I started as a Benefits Analyst, and eventually moved up to a Senior Specialist role where I had some management responsibility. I left that team for another company where I became an HR Ops Manager that focused primarily on Benefits, and now I'm an HR Generalist focusing primarily on rewards, but getting some exposure to other areas. 🤓

Honestly, it helps to have an employer that has a career path for your role.

Thank you for sharing!

I started as a Coordinator in June 2021 and in Marxh 2022 I was promoted to HR Generalist. Speak with your supervisor/manager and give concrete examples of why you deserve to be promoted.

Hello HR folks. Overheard a conversation at work and am curious what is the norm.
If an employee goes out on FMLA, obviously the benefits person sends them the STD, FMLA paperwork etc. But is it the maagers responsibility to maintain communication with the person out on leave and to get a timeline on their return or would that be the benefits team? Or maybe the HRBP?

I’m contracting with a company in an admin role, but sometimes I’m asked to do projects that would normally be outsourced to a marketing or design company like designing a flyer for example. It’s not in my job description, but I have the skills to do this work and so why not ask me to do it? Is it out of the question to ask if I can be paid for that work under a separate fee as a consultant or something? Is that even possible?

I’m currently working with a senior level HR candidate. This individual has a doctorate in business with a focus in HR, her SPHR, Federal, and private sector experience at the singer level, and has a fabulous personality. I’m curious is anyone else having difficulties play some candidates like this? At this point I’m starting to think it’s racial or her sex based of the lack of interest in this candidate. Any thoughts?

I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do it, I’m so mentally burnt out at the end of the day from a high stress HR job, the last thing I feel like doing is studying HR!
