Generally speaking I’d say the sample cases are a good guideline for what to expect. Unlike a MBB style case, our tech cases are usually a project situation in the area you are interviewing for. You would be expected to know how to do the things someone at your level (SC) should know how to do in the various stages of a project like that, and in some cases you are asked questions that test your knowledge in that context—meaning there actually is a “right” answer to some questions.
The rest is standard case stuff, having a logical and organized thought process, communicating well and showing good “executive presence”, etc.
Hard to say. I was a boomerang at Deloitte when I first did a case and didn’t even know there was a case interview so had done no prep at all and did fine. 😂 Not what I’d recommend for an average MBA candidate, especially if you don’t have prior big 4 type consulting experience.
I guess I’d say once you have the overall case structure and response process down you probably have done enough prep. How many cases that takes may vary a lot based on the person. I doubt you could prep that much on the specific case content since you don’t know which case you will get, but you might think through what you might be expected to know on a typical project in the area you are interviewing for.
Thank you D1, very helpful!
What level of preparation would you recommend? I feel like I see people here doing 20+ practice cases, even with peers. I am afraid I dont think i have that much time.
I wouldn’t stress out too much about not being able to do 20+ cases with peers. I’m sure some prep helps but after a certain point you’re probably just making yourself more nervous.
