I’m looking for a freelance hybrid social strategist / content creator (“light” content creation) for a long term, part time (~50%) gig on one of my clients for the entirety of 2021. (1/2) As my first full year of practice comes to a close, it looks like my pre-tax salary for this fiscal year year will be just short of $400k — after year end bonuses are distributed next month (the 400k figure also includes my low base, but 75% of it reflects bonus). As of now, before my bonus has come in, I’ve got 193k student loans, 60k in investments, and 20k in savings. How much of the bonus should I use to pay student loans, and how much should I contribute to my investment portfolio?

How do you turn off perfectionism? I always get stuck at the end of a project because it’s never “perfect.” Getting over that final hump from “must be perfect” to “good enough” for government work is tough. Looking for strategies to help me get things finished and move on.

Living in Van. Previously lived in Toronto. Obviously rent prices are high as is cost of living. Generally go out and spend more often living in a city. Boyfriend and I on good salary but not saving much due to the above. Thoughts on Angelo Gordon’s real estate team?

If I bought stock/crypto in January while living in NYC, but sold it in February while living in Florida would I have to pay NY or Florida for the capital gains?

Our firm is establishing our target billable %'s at a small public accounting firm. Is there a website that gives target billable time % by staff level for the tax and accounting industry? Just started poking around the AICPA website, but would appreciate being able to save some time looking for it. I'm used to a lower % rate than what's being proposed (70% vs 85%) and don't want to cause undue pressure on staff, but do want to give a reasonable billable hours expectation going forward.

Do you guys think tax is a very specific kind of knowledge? So you can be a manager and be fluent in corporate tax, but if you were to transfer to say international or estate tax team, you are no better technically than a senior?

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!

I really need help from everyone here: I am a tax senior, and I have offer from both EY and MNP. I was at Deloitte earlier and I am not sure which to pick. Same package/benefits. While EY is a great firm and the partners are amazing and all experiences of Big4 and it's resources, MNP has this charm of a Canadian firm and great culture. I don't know much but people say MNP is a great organization. The people I will work with are all amazing to speak during interview. What to do now?
