Can anyone recommend some small or mid-sized law firms in NYC that are reputable and could make for a good lateral opportunity for a second-year M&A associate who enjoys working at a law firm but wants to get away from constant 70-100 hour weeks? I’m happy to work hard, but staffing shortages at my Big Law firm have run me into the ground and I’m ready for a change.

What do you think makes more sense:
a) Stay in audit and get M1 promo this year, and then later try to transfer to FDD at manager level.
b) Move to FDD right now as S3, settle in at more relaxed pace but only hit M1 promo in 2 years.

Hello all. Looking for thoughts and opinions. I’ve been a sales manager with a small company (I refuse to say it is a start up anymore since they bring in several million in ARR). I’ve been with them for a year and a half. I started at 50k and now make 63k. I am a full-cycle sales manager…the company does not believe in the use of BDRs. There’s no opportunity for growth. Is my salary fair (per MA standards)? I was promised high OTE… but with no marketing team I also hardly get leads.

Thinking of going freelance in a few months because I have gone 3 years without a raise and my work-life balance is awful. I’m a 2nd yr. in M&A (if relevant: I’m billing on average 176 hrs, lowest month was 144, highest was 281, not getting paid market about 20-30k below). I’m considering a lateral move to Latham. I’ve read that firms sometimes just want you to stop working same day even if you give two weeks notice. Is this typical/do they pay you for the full weeks?

I might actually work for the worst partner in BigLaw. Literally tries to crush my soul. And I’m not sure why, I always try to over deliver. Need some feedback, I am lateraling into an associate role at a top 25 law firm after several years at government and corporate jobs & have concerns about the background check.
